Dollar store holdup may be related to downstate robbery
NORTH GREENBUSH>> Police say last weekend’s holdup of a dollar store on North Greenbush Road may be related to a similar downstate robbery.
Town police are still looking for the man who walked into the Dollar Tree store in the Shoppes at Greenbush Commons about 9:15 p.m. May 6, displayed a silver handgun and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash. Now, however, town Police Chief Robert Durivage said in a Friday morning news release, investigators are looking into a possible connection with a simi- lar holdup reported Dec. 29 at a Dollar Tree store in Fishkill.
In that case, according to local media reports, a man walked into the store about 9 p. m., showed a gun and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and two cellphones. The suspect was described as a white man, 5-foot-9, weighing between 1800 and 200 pounds, with short white hair.
The suspect in the North Greenbush robbery was described as a white man age 50 to 60, 5-foot-9 to 6 feet tall with gray or white hair and wearing a black baseball cap, grey long- sleeve shirt with a black T- shirt underneath, blue jeans and black shoes. Durivage added Friday that the man drove to the Sunoco convenience store at 611 Columbia Turnpike in East Greenbush after the holdup, making a
purchase before driving east on routes 9 and 20.
Police also released new photos of the suspect and his car, a charcoal gray Dodge Charger, from the convenience store.
“The investigation is ongoing at this time,” Durivage said in the release, “and we’re expanding our area of where t he suspect may be from. We are asking anyone with information or anyone who may have seen something to contact North Greenbush police at 2835323.”
