Playoff seeds, schedule released

The Section II baseball playoffs began Tuesday afternoon with first round games beginning just hours after the brackets were released by the seeding committee.

Several Troy-area schools were in action, including No. 6 seed La Salle (13-2 Colonial Council) at home vs. No. 11 Columbia (7-8 Suburban Council) and No. 9 Troy (8-7 Suburban) who were eliminated by No. 8 Shenendeho­wa (9- 6 Suburban) by a score of 5-3.

Here’s a look at the top-seeded teams in each class.

Class AA

The top seeds in the largest school division are CBA (13-2 Suburban) at No. 1, Niskayuna (12-3 Suburban) at No. 2, Ballston Spa

(11- 4 Suburban) at No. 3 and Saratoga Springs (10-5 Suburban) at No. 4.

All four received byes and will host a game in Thursday’s quarterfin­al round.

Class A

All eight teams in the Class A bracket will play quarterfin­al contests Thursday. Defending champs Queensbury (11-3 Foothills) nabbed the top seed and will host No. 8 Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (3-12 Suburban). Secondseed­ed Amsterdam (4-10) is on the opposite side of the bracket with No. 3 Mohonasen (8-7 Suburban), No. 6 South Glens Falls (6-8 Foothills) and Gloversvil­le (4-10 Foothills).

No. 5 Lansingbur­gh (7-7 Colonial) will travel to No. 4 Scotia- Glenville (9-5 Foothills).

Class B

Wasaren League champions Saratoga Catholic earned the No. 1 seed in Class B with a 15-1 league record. No. 2 seeded Hudson (15-1 Patroon) also got a bye while No. 3 Ichabod Crane (14-1 Colonial) and No. 4 Coxsackie-Athens (13-3 Patroon) hosted first round games Tuesday.

The defending champs from Schalmont did not make the postseason.

Class C

Top- seeded Renssalear ( 12- 2 Central Hudson Valley League) was the only team in the Class C bracket to get a bye. Second- seeded Galway (11-2 WAC) the Western Athletic League champs hosted No. 15 Greenville while defending champs Hoosic Valley (13-3 Wasaren) hosted Berne-Knox (6-7 WAC). No. 4 Lake George (8-2 Adirondack) hosted No. 13 Maple Hill (8-8 Patroon).

Class D

Fort Plain (12-1 WAC) earned the top seed in Class D while Fort Ann

(12-1 Adirondack) was No. 2, Whitehall (9-1 Adirondack) No. 3 and Germantown (10-2 CHVL) hosted a game as the fourth seed.
