NORTH GREENBUSH - Marthat “Genevra” (Chapman) Crandall, 95, a longtime resident of Cropseyvil­le, died peacefully, Monday, May 15, 2017 at Van Rensselaer Manor following a long illness.

Born in Arcadia, FL, August 11, 1921, Mrs. Crandall was the daughter of the late Charles and Martha (Amann) Chapman and for many years the wife of the late George F. Crandall Sr.

As a young girl, Mrs. Crandall’s Crandall’ family relocated ltd to upstate New York and she was a graduate of Argyle High School’s “Class of 1938.”

For over 50 years following her marriage to George, she was a homemaker in Cropseyvil­le and took pride in caring for her home and raising her family of six children. Following George’s Georges death, she moved to Port Charlotte, FL for several years where she worked from her home as a self-employed elder care nurse. After retiring in 1994 she returned to the Johnsonvil­le area to be closer to her family.

Mrs. Crandall was a former member of the Community Church in Crop-seyvilley and taught both Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed making all types of crafts including quilting, crocheting, sewing, ceramics and creating beautiful delicate decorated eggs. Among her most favorite pass times while a resident at Van Rensselaer Manor was playing Bingo and attending all the activities and church with her friends there.

Mrs. Crandall is survived by her children, George F. and “Laine” Crandall Jr. of Cropseyvil­le, Arlene C. (Hunziker) Brandle of Valley Falls, Carol Faith (the late Kenneth) Cushman of Pittstown, Judith A. Brod of Johnsonvil­le, Kirk (the late Frances Ruth) Auernig of Cambridge and Vonda G. and Ernest Emory of Jacksonvil­le, FL, a sister, Arlene (the late Michael) Girard of Glens Falls, and many grandchild­ren, greatgrand­children, great-greatgrand­children and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and daughter, she was predecease­d by two brothers, the late James E. Chapman and Charles T. Chapman.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at noon at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown. Burial at Brookside Cemetery in Poestenkil­l will be private at the convenienc­e of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until noon, prior to the service.

Memorial contributi­ons if desired, may be made to the Christ United Methodist Church, Johnsonvil­le, New York 12094 in memory of Genevra Crandall.

The Crandall family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and stafftaff att VRM, especially those on unit A3, for their love and support of Mrs. Crandall while she was under their excellent care.
