Breselor not running for re-election to county Legislature
TROY, N.Y. >> Days after the top two leaders of the Rensselaer County Legislature announced they would not run for re- election, they are being joined by another Republican member.
Legislator Judith Breselor of Sand Lake announced Thursday she will not seek re- election to a third term in November. Breselor said in a news release she wants to spend more time with her family, though she added she still plans to remain active in the community — she currently serves as a member of the Hudson Valley Community College Board of Trustees.
“Having been born and raised in Rensselaer County, it has been an honor to represent and serve my neighbors in the county Legislature,” Breselor said in the release. “It was a duty and privilege I did not take lightly during my two terms.”
She was first elected in 2009 to represent District 4, which includes the towns of Schodack, Sand Lake and Nassau, and was re- elected in 2013. During her term, she has represented the county on the Capital District Regional Planning Commission, serving currently as its chairwoman, and also currently chairs the Legislature’s Environment and Planning and Tourism committees. She is also a board member for the Commission on Economic Opportunity.
Breselor’s announcement follows a similar one made Monday by the Legislature’s chairman and vice- chairman, Stan Brownell and Alex Shannon, respectively. As they said Monday, Breselor said she is confident Republicans will at least retain, if not expand, expand their legislative majority in November.
“I am very proud of our record of protecting taxpayers and needed services, while safeguarding quality of life and fostering economic development and job creation,” she said. “Our county is moving in the right direction, and I look forward to seeing that progress continue.”
