SCHAGHTICO­KE - Gene A. Bahan, 78, a longtime resident of Valley Falls Road, died peacefully Mon - day, May 30, 2017 at Sa maritan Hospital in Troy following a long illness.

Born in Pittstown, May 26, 1939, Gene was the son of the late Ralph and Dora ( Stratton) Bahan Sr. and the best friend and fiancée of Shirley D D. Watkins of Clifton Park who survives.

As a boy he attended the local district school and later attended Hoosic Valley High School until enlisting in the United States Army National Guard where he served for eight years.

Gene was employed as a carpenter by the Carpenter’s Union Local # 370 in Albany. At his retirement he was recognized for his 50 years of dedicated ser - vice and membership in support of the local union and tradesman.

Gene was proud of the fact that he designed and built the house he lived in for over 40 years and he had many and varied interests. He was an avid outdoorsma­n and member of the Green Island Rod and Gun Club and enjoyed hunting, fishing, kayaking, and camping, especially at Lake Sacandaga. He also liked gardening and work - ing with his old farm tractors.

He is survived by his son and daughter- in- law, Mark S. and Colleen Ba - han of Schaghtico­ke and his daughter daughter, Dawn M. Bahan of Northborou­gh, MA, two sisters, Joan Pickrell of Sandgate, VT and Pa - tricia Norton of Pittstown, four grandchild­ren, Kara Bahan, Christophe­r Koch, Starla Marchant and Si - arra Marchant, a greatgrand­son, Caleb Koch and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, a sister and two brothers, Eileen Rifen-burgh, Ralph Bahan Jr. and Robert Bahan also prede - ceased him.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 1: 00 P. M. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 New York Route 7, located in Raymertown. Burial at White Chapel Cemetery in North Bennington­gt will be held later this Summer. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the fu - neral home on Friday, from 11: 00 A. M. – 1: 00 P. M. prior to the service. A reception at the Green Island Rod and Gun Club, located at 872 Valley Falls- Melrose Road in Schaghtico­ke will follow.
