SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » Renowned equine artist Greg Montgomery, who has been producing artwork associated with Saratoga Race Course’s famed Travers Stakes since 1986, will unveil the 32nd edition of his annual Travers poster series at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame on Thursday, June 15 at 7 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. Posters will be available for purchase and will be signed by Montgomery.

Montgomery will give a brief presentation and discussion about his Travers series, answer any audience questions and then unveil the 2017 edition, titled Record Breaker!, in honor of Arrogate’s 2016 Travers victory in which he set a stakes and track record for 1¼ miles.

Montgomery’s Travers poster series has been inspired by the rich history of the Travers Stakes, the first race contested on Saratoga Race Course’s opening day on Aug. 2, 1864. Named in honor of William R. Travers, the first president of the Saratoga Association, the inaugural Travers Stakes was won by future Hall of Fame member Kentucky, a horse Travers owned in partnership.

One of the most prestigious races in America, the Travers has been won by thoroughbred immortals such as Hall of Famers Man o’ War, Hindoo, Twenty Grand, Eight Thirty, Native Dancer, Sword Dancer, Buckpasser, Damascus, Easy Goer, Holy Bull and Point Given. A total of 22 Hall of Fame racehorses have won the Travers.
