LAND O’LAKES, FL Robert Glenn Engle of Land O’Lakes, Florida, moving to Villa Rica, Georgia less than two months ago, passed away at the age of 75.

Born in Troy, New York to Rita and Glenn Engle, he lived in Speigletow­n, graduating from Lansingbur­gh High School in 1959, entering the U.S. Navy where he served during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was part of the first space recovery team, spending the better part of 45 days at sea recovering John Glenn when he came down.

In January of 1961, he married his beloved high school sweetheart, Beverly Cutler, also of Troy and Speigletow­n, who died on November 19, 2016 in Florida after a courageous battle with cancer. They are survived by the following children:

Kevin R. Engle (Deb), Jill J. Nichols (Matt), Wendi S. Sutton (Mark) and Keith R. Engle (Maureen), grandchild­ren Dominique Engle, Justin Nichols (Lisa), Brandon Nichols, Kristina Sutton Easley (Rob), Kati Sutton (Phillip), Mark (Kelsey), step-grandson Julian Van Horn, great-grand-children Olivia & Max Sutton.

Also loving sister, Peggy Hoffman (Conrad – Bob’s special friend) and beloved brother Dick Engle (Fran) .... and many cherished family and friends.

After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he was employed at BehrMannin­g in Watervliet, later transferri­ng to Barre, MA, then on to California where he graduated from Saint Mary’s College at Santa Clara, while serving as Behr-Manning’s manager of engineerin­g services and chief industrial engineer He moved to Burke Industries in 1986 as industrial engineerin­g manager later rising to the positions of engineerin­g manager and vice president of manufactur­ing.

In retirement, “Bob” decided to do volunteer work with the Pasco County Florida Sheriff Department, in 2004 enrolling in the inaugural CSU (Civilian Service Unit) training program in which he was able to contribute 10,000 hours of community service saving taxpayers approximat­ely $170,000. At the time of his death, Bob was the sole remaining volunteer still serving from that inaugural class. In March of this year, he was presented with the “Volunteer 10-k Award” for his tireless dedication and service to their agency and community.

“Bob” was also a devoted “Red Sox” fan as is his brother “Dick”, which was passed on by a “father” who loved the “Sox” & Ted Williams.

Many thanks to all those reaching out to Bob’s family, especially the Pasco County Sheriff Department. Burial will be later at the convenienc­e of the family.
