TROY, N.Y. » The Collar City recently welcomed a new car dealership to its business community.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held last week for Troy Car Company, Inc., located at 257 Congress St. in Troy, on the city’s growing Congress Street business corridor.

A pre-owned vehicle dealership, Troy Car Company aims to provide well-maintained, well-serviced vehicles at affordable prices.

Mayor Patrick Madden and local representatives including Deputy County Executive Chris Meyer joined owner Michael “Big Mike” Burke to celebrate the grand opening of the city’s newest small business last Friday at the dealership.

Burke has been working in the industry since 1992. “I started in Troy at Ken Goewey Dodge on Fifth Avenue selling cars,” he recalled.

With deep local roots, Burke grew up in Troy and has lived in and around the city his whole life. So when he decided to start his own entrepreneurial endeavor, he wanted to do it in his hometown.

Looking ahead, Burke said he is excited to do business in Troy.

Troy Car Company serves customers from throughout the city and beyond, offering quality, pre-owned vehicles in various makes and models.

Burke is particularly interested in catering to the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute students, as well as first-time drivers.

“When someone buys a used car here, I try to make them feel like they’re buying a new car,” Burke said. “They get both sets of keys, they get floor mats with it, an owner’s manual,” he said.

Overall, Burke continued, “We try to give them a good experience.”

Troy Car Company, the newest vehicle sales location for Burke, is accredited

with the Better Business Bureau, reinforcing his reputation for customer satisfaction throughout his three-decade long career in the automotive sales business.

To Burke, offering vehicles through a simple, no pressure process, at a fair price is key to the years of repeat and referral business he has enjoyed for years.

If Troy Car Company doesn’t have the vehicle a customer is looking for, Burke will travel far and wide to find the car of their choice, he said.

Furthermore, Burke said Troy Car Company will stand behind every vehicle it sells, helping customers with any issues after the sale.

Right now it’s just Burke operating Troy Car Company on a daily basis, but he hopes to grow and hire a staff in the future.

Another of Burke’s goals for the business would be to someday open a second location within the city of Troy.

Troy Car Company is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, or Sunday by appointment.
