50 CENT BASKET SOCIAL: The Poestenkil­l Christian Church will be hosting a .50 Cent Basket Social at the Sullivan Jones Post (VFW Post), 25 Veterans St., Poestenkil­l, on Saturday, June 17. Doors open at noon and calling begins at 1:30 p.m. There will be an array of baskets and gift cards to be raffled. Tickets are 50 cents each or 25 for $10. BENNINGTON BATTLEFIEL­D: Bennington Battlefiel­d State Historic Site, located in the Town of Hoosick, on RT67, will host an event as part of a state-wide Path Through History weekend on Saturday, June 17, at 11 a.m. Michael Gabriel, author of “The Battle of Bennington: Soldiers & Civilians,” will speak. Matthew Shelley will perform ballads and songs that were enjoyed throughout the Revolution­ary era. Living history presenters will also be on hand. The event is free and open to the public. He is the creator of Gino’s Rail-Museum and Rail-Blog websites and the author of Trolleys of the Capital District and the soon-to- be-released, The Brief History of the Saratoga, Mount McGregor and Lake George Railroad. Gino will share photos and stories of the narrow-gauge railroad that brought the rich and famous, including General Grant, to the mountain-top above Saratoga Springs. USS SLATER: The third Saturday in June is recognized and celebrated nationwide as Destroyer Escort Day in honor of the Destroyer Escort sailors killed in World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Cold War years and the ten Destroyer Escort ships lost in action. There will be a ceremony to honor and remember Destroyer Escorts and their Sailors on Saturday, June 17, beginning at 9 a.m. at USS SLATER, a National Historic Landmark and the last DE afloat in America. USS SLATER is located on the Hudson River in Downtown Albany just south of the Dunn Memorial Bridge. The Albany ceremony is sponsored by USS SLATER Volunteers.
