Bisping signs, Wright works out
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. » Brett Bisping is the first of Siena’s four seniors to sign a professional contract, per a release. He’ll be playing in Sweden for Boras Basket of Basketligan, which is the best league in the country.
“I’m excited and honored for this opportunity,” Bisping said in the release. “It’s a great club with a great coach, and I think they’ve done a really good job of putting together a strong team. I feel very blessed to have had all the family, friends and people from Siena who have helped me along the way. Now it’s time to put in the work, hold up my end of the deal, and prove that I have the talent and work ethic to succeed at the next level.”
Bisping was a second-team All-
MAAC this season, and is the only player in the program’s history to have more than 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds. He suffered through knee tendinitis this past season, one in which the Saints lost in the MAAC Tournament final to Iona on March 7. Bisping played through the pain, saying that when he eventually played professional basketball, that he’d be one of the young players on the team.
Boras Basket is located in Boras, Sweden, which is about 200 miles north of Copenhagen, per the release. The season starts in October and runs through April.
Marquis Wright works out for the Wizards
While Bisping gets ready to move to Europe, another Siena graduate is attempting to play at the highest level. Wright, a Waldorf, Md., native and one of the highest scorers in Saints history, worked out for his hometown Washington Wizards on Thursday.
“Yesterday was a great experience,” Wright said on Twitter. “And I am blessed that God gave me the opportunity. One of the best days of my life.”
Iowa’s Peter Jok, Syracuse’s Andrew White and UConn’s Amida Brimah also worked out for the team Wizards with Wright.
Wright told the TimesUnion that he’d look to play overseas if he isn’t given a chance to play professionally in the United States.
