Area lax players to represent Upstate NY

Several boys and girls lacrosse players from the Capital District were selected to represent the Upstate New York Region at the 2017 Under Armour Underclass Lacrosse Tournament scheduled for June 29–July 2 at Towson University.

On the boys side, the Highlight Division — mad up of players from the graduating Classes of 2018 and 2019 — featured Ballsotn Spa face-off specialist Austin Deskewicz (verbal commitment to Stony Brook), Shenendehowa midfielder Matt Stucchi and Ballston

Spa midfielder Sam Swingruber (verbally committed to UAlbany).

In the Command Division — Classes of 2020 and 2021 — Ballston Spa attack Lucas Bennice, Ballston Spa long stick midfielder

Connor Cecala, Niskayuna goalie Andrew D’Allaird and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake attack Ty McHerron were selected.

Several area players were selected for the Command Division girls squad, including Saratoga Springs midfielder Elizabeth McGinn, Saratoga Springs attack Catherine “Kit” O’Hara, Saratoga Springs

goalkeeper Abigail Searles, Saratoga Springs attack Sylvie Waters, Queensbury midfielder Jordan Bentley and Ballston Spa midfielder Samantha DiVito.

The New York Region teams will compete against teams from Baltimore, Long Island (NY), Midwest, Philadelphia, New England, New Jersey, South, Southwest, Washington, D.C. and

West.

AIRWAY MEADOWS » The team of Kyle Schultz, Doug Burbridge, James Heber and Walt Kosinski won the Friday night scramble at Airway Meadows with a score of 6-under. Sean Deangelo, Tweezer Scheidt and Dan Roberts were next at 4-under. Burbridge was

closest to the pin on No. 3 and Kosinski was closest on No. 9.

McLaughlin and Sid Balick shot a gross score of 66 to win the All-Member scramble at Shaker Ride Country Club June 3. The team of Derek Bell, Fred Bodner, Selena Balick and Connie Rissberger were second with a 68 while Pat Maloney, John Lusk, Sharon Tuszynski and Mary Ann Kling were third with a gross of 69.
