Joseph J. Berry

TROY - Joseph J. Berry, 79, passed into eternal rest surrounded by his loving family. Joe was the son of the late Philip and Elizabeth Dewan Berry sonand in-law of the late Edward (Bud) and Alice Hartnett. He was a lifelong resident of Troy. Joe met and married the love of his life Tonita Hartnett Berry of Troy and they have been married for 54 years. Joe was predecease­d by his brother and best friend John Berry.

Joe was a graduate of Catholic Central High School class of 1957 and attended Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. Joe was employed at the United Traction Com Depart Assistant pany and was employed for many years at the Troy Record Newspaper, first as a Branch Manager in the Circulatio­n ment and then as Controller. Joe was also employed for 25 years as Manager of the Off Track Betting Corporatio­n in the Troy Atrium.

Joe was a kind, erate and caring person. He always put others first before himself. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a loyal, (always forcollecs­imple giving) fan of the Boston Red Sox. He has a tion of Red Sox yearbooks from 1956 through 2017. He also was an avid fan of Notre Dame and New York Giants. Joe was a lifetime member of the Emerald Athletic Club and a past member of the club’s golf league for several years. Joe was an easy spirit, pleased with the things in life. His wants were easily met. One of his greatest pleasures was spending time in OgunsisHar­tquit, Maine. He truly loved it.

Joe is survived by his wife Tonita Hartnett Berry, ters-in-law Virginia Berry of Troy and Laura nett Sherman of Michigan. Joe is also survived by his nieces Denise (Michael) Fitzgerald of Troy, Jessica Sherman of Michigan and nephews John( Betsy) Ber( AlS her( Ashley) ry of Florida, Andrew lie) Sherman of Michigan and Dakota (Brett) man of Manhattan, great nieces Kiley Fitzgerald of Albany and Marissa (Mark) Perrotti of Troy, great nephews Michael Fitzgerald, Jr. of Troy, and Bo Edward Sherman of Michigan and a great great nephew Michael Fitzgerald III of Troy. Joe is also surFamvive­d by his extended and much loved Orellana ily.

The funeral service for Joe will be held on Thursday morning at 8:45 am from the Wm. Leahy Funeral Home, 336 Third Street, Troy and at 9:30 am at St. Michael the Archanfuev­ening gel Church, 175 Williams Road, Troy where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends may call at the neral home on Wednesday from 4 – 7 pm.

Entombment St. Mary’s Mausoleum, Troy. Jeffrey L’Arche, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 119 Broad Street, Waterford. The liturgy and hymns will be in French; the homily, in French and English. The tradition of honoring St. Jean in late June came to North America with the French colonists, who first celebrated on the banks of the St. Lawrence River on June 23, 1636, with a bonfire and cannon shots. This free event is open to all; those attending Mass are invited to a reception immediatel­y afterwards in the parish hall.

TROY AMATEUR RADIO ASSOCIATIO­N: The Troy Amateur Radio Associatio­n will be holding their annual Field Day at Grafton State Park on Shaver Pond Rd. from 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, until 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 25. This is an exercise in which we prepare ourselves for emergency and other types of amateur communicat­ions. The Field Day is open to the public.
