NATIONAL MUSEUM OF DANCE: The National Museum of Dance is pleased to announce the opening of its newest exhibition. A centerpiec­e of the 30th anniversar­y season, National Museum of Dance: Celebratin­g 30 Years examines the rich history of the Museum from its founding and 1987 grand opening season up to the present day. SCHODACK ISLAND STATE PARK: Schodack Island State Park comes alive with music on Fridays evenings with open mic nights. The entertainm­ent will begin at 5 p.m. and continue into the evening until 8 pm, depending on the crowd. Schodack Landing Fire Company will be selling their great food at Friday Open Mic Nights. THACHER NATURE CENTER: Learn to Fish at Thompson’s Lake, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. DEC Fisheries staff will teach program participan­ts how to identify common sportfish, how to cast a spin-casting rod, bait a hook and fishing safety. After the fishing education portion of the program, everyone will get a fishing rod and have the opportunit­y to use the skills they just learned and go fishing. CHENEY LIBRARY BOOK SALE: July 1, is the date for the First Saturday Book Sale at Cheney Library in Hoosick Falls. In the Book Sale room there is a wide selection of almost new books: hardcovers, $1 and paperbacks and children’s books, $.50. Fill a bag with books from the tables outside for $5. The tables will hold a combinatio­n of hardcover and paperbacks of gently read books. This is a great way to get some good summer reading material. All First Saturday Book Sales starts at 9 a.m. and run to 1 p.m.

CHERRY VALLEY SCULPTURE TRAIL: On Saturday, July 1, Cherry Valley Artworks will inaugurate its 6th Biennial Sculpture Trail with a 6

p.m. reception in the garden of the Cherry Valley Museum, 49 Main Street, Cherry Valley. Twenty-two pieces of Sculpture will be displayed along the entire length of Main Street and will be on exhibition through October 7. GRANT COTTAGE: Remarkable Flowers of Mt. McGregor, 1 p.m. The woods and waters surroundin­g Mt. McGregor have long attracted attention from both profession­al botanists and amateur wildflower lovers alike. Presenter Jackie Donnelly, nature writer and photograph­er, has been exploring the area for over twenty-five years. Her illustrate­d talk will explore several distinct habitats of the mountain. DECLARATIO­N OF INDEPENDEN­CE: The Chapin

Library of rare books at Williams College will host the annual July 4 reading of the Declaratio­n of Independen­ce by actors from the Williamsto­wn Theatre Festival at 1:30 p.m. The actors will read from the second floor outside balcony of Sawyer Library. Visitors should gather on the library quad west of Sawyer Library and between Schapiro and Hollander halls. In case of inclement weather, the event will take place inside Sawyer Library. The Chapin Library’s collection of Founding Documents will be on view from noon to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Chapin Gallery on the second floor of Sawyer Library (room 406). The event

is free and open to the public. USS SLATER: USS Slater will be open to the public for guided tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Independen­ce Day, July 4. Typically, the ship is closed on Tuesday for continuing restoratio­n, but exceptions are made for significan­t holidays. Admission is charged. Albany’s World War II destroyer escort is the only DE afloat in America. USS Slater is located on the Hudson River in Downtown Albany just south of the Dunn Memorial Bridge.
