SPEIGLE ELDERS SUMMER PROJECT: The Speigle Elders are kicking off a summer project suggested by Rensselaer County Social Services. When school opens in the fall, single mothers of school-aged children face many budget restrictio­ns, leaving little money to purchase personal essentials for themselves. Members of our senior group are asked to bring in these items to meetings throughout the summer months: tooth paste, tooth brushes, soaps, shampoo, combs, hair brushes, etc. These items will be delivered to the Lansingbur­gh School District in the fall.

MAC-HAYDN CHILDREN’S THEATER: Brand-new adventures will delight youngsters in “The Trials of Alice In Wonderland” at The Mac-Haydn Children’s Theatre in nearby Chatham through July 15. Mac-Haydn company members star as Alice, the Cheshire Cat, Queen of Hearts, White Rabbit, Tweedledee, Tweedledum and more of the fanciful creatures Alice revisits as she tries to prove she is innocent of growing and changing. PINTA&NINA: On Friday, July 14, the ‘Pinta’ and the ‘Nina’, replicas of Christophe­r Columbus’ ships, will open in Albany. The ships will be docked at Albany Yacht Club, 75 Broadway, Rensselaer, until their departure early Wednesday morning, July 17. The ships tour together as a new and enhanced ‘sailing museum’ for the purpose of educating the public and school children on the ‘caravel’, a Portuguese ship used by Columbus and many early explorers to discover the world. While in port, the general public is invited to visit the ships for a walk-aboard, self-guided tour. Admission charges are $8 for adults, $ 7 for seniors, and $6 for students 5- 16. Children 4and under are Free. The ships are open every day from 9 a.m. to 6p.m. No reservatio­ns necessary. MEALS, POOLS & MORE: With two city pools closing in Troy children will be displaced this summer, so Victory Christian Church of Albany will use their City Kids Smoothie truck as a food truck in Troy. The lunches will be made at the JC Club located at 63 Quail Street. Albany teens from Life Song Special Needs children’s program will help make the lunches. Starting June 27, a route will be formed in Troy where the most children and the greatest needs will be met. The truck will go to South Troy first then to North Troy. In addition, over 300 pools will be given away to families who relied on the city pools to help keep their children cool and busy for the summer. NETTER’S FUND GOLF TOURNAMENT: The 11th annual Netter’s Fund Golf Tournament takes place on Sunday, July 23, at Frear Park Golf Course in Troy. GRAFTON SUMMER FESTIVAL: The Grafton Summer Festival is scheduled for Saturday, July 15, at the Grafton Town Park on NYS Route 2, one mile east of the State Park entrance. Highlights include the Capitaland Chorus chapter of the Sweet Adelines Internatio­nal, Crenshaw’s Battery Civil War reenactors with cannons, a chicken BBQ starting at noon, and a craft fair and flea market with a record number of vendors expected. SOUL REBEL PERFORMANC­E TROUPE: Soul Rebel Performanc­e Troupe, a Watervliet-based organizati­on with a mission of foster-

ing better cross-cultural understand­ing through the performing arts, will present a weekend of one-acts, monologues and stand-up comedy at the First Congregati­onal Church, 405 Quail St. in Albany. Two one-act plays by local playwright Joe Starzyk, “Instant Harmony,” and “Vatican 3G” are part of the weekend’s line-up. The additional one-acts are “Harriet Tubman Visits a Therapist,” by Carolyn Cage, and “Meridian Mississipp­i Redux,” by Le Wilhelm. Local comedienne Doreen Watson will perform stand-up comedy. NEW YORK CITY BALLET DANCE VIDEOS: In advance of its 2017 residency of the New York City Ballet (July

5 – 15), Saratoga Performing Arts Center will be releasing a series of unique, locallysho­t dance videos created by videograph­ers and NYCB dancers, Emily Kikta and Peter Walker. The eight videos feature NYCB dancers performing short pieces at iconic locations in Saratoga Springs and Troy, including the Gasholder Building, Yaddo, the Race Track, Congress Park, Saratoga Lake and the Saratoga Train Station. The videos will be released on SPAC’s website and social media channels daily from June 26 – July 3 at spac.org.

HAMILTON WEEKEND:

Join fellow Hamilton history enthusiast­s for a series of performanc­es, exhibits and presentati­ons that relate to the life and achievemen­ts of Alexander Hamilton. SARATOGA HERITAGE AREA WALKING TOURS: The Saratoga Heritage Area Visitor Center’s popular “History, Legends, Lore and More” walking tour is back. Stroll through Congress Park, take the waters and hear the stories of our most colorful characters, beloved monuments and treasured artwork. Tours will be held June 23, 24 and 30. FREE MOVIE SERIES: The Palace’s “Summer in the City” Movie Series, copresente­d by Albany Medical Center and SEFCU, offers eight free, family-friendly movies to children and families from neighborho­ods around the Palace Theatre in downtown Albany, starting July 11. For each show, doors open at noon with educationa­l activities provided by Albany Medical Center. Movies begin at 1 p.m. Free popcorn and beverages are provided to children 12 and under. MARATHON GOLF DAY: Mark your calendar for July 15 for the inaugural Marathon Golf Day hosted by Schenectad­y Municipal Golf Course, 400 Oregon Avenue, Schenectad­y. Proceeds from this event will directly benefit the American Red Cross of Northeaste­rn New York’s Home Fire Campaign to reduce fire-related deaths and injuries across the nation by 25% over a five year period. Marathon Golf Day is a unique opportunit­y for golfers to enjoy unlimited play from 7a.m. (shotgun start) until 5 p.m. In addition to greens fees, carts will be provided, and breakfast, lunch and dinner are all included. $75 of each $150 registrati­on fee, along with all event sponsorshi­p funds, will be donated directly to the Red Cross. TOWN OF PITTSTOWN SENIORS: The Town of Pittstown Seniors (TOPS) hold their meetings at the Raymertown Volunteer Fire Co. on Mason Lane in Raymertown. Any man or woman 55 years of age and up is welcome to join. Their zip line trip is tentativel­y scheduled for August 22. Please let Sylvia know if you would like to go by calling 478-3338. This trip is open to non seniors as well. A luncheon cruise on Lake George is also being planned, with a target date of July 18. 1-1⁄2 hour rafting is also being planned.
