Chicken Joe’s opens in Troy next week
TROY, N.Y.» Chicken Joe’s is set to open next weekend in the Collar City.
The second Capital Region Chicken Joe’s eatery is expected to open next Saturday, Aug. 5 at 506 Campbell Ave. in Troy.
Following this grand opening, the new business will be open from 11 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.
Founder “Chicken Joe” will be on site next Saturday, and owners plan to host giveaways and festivities for opening day.
Chicken Joe’s originated more than 20 years ago in Connecticut, before opening a location in Albany in 2010.
From this site, Chicken Joe’s has built a Capital Region following of people who love the eatery’s fried chicken and other savory specialties.
Chicken Joe’s is best known for its fresh-made, hand-cut white meat nuggets, which are the centerpiece of most meals such as the top-selling High School Special.
Another foodie favorite is the Heaven Sub, which features chicken nuggets, fries, mozzarella sticks, bacon, cheese and ranch dressing - all on a sub roll.
Chicken Joe’s is also home to other out-of-the-norm menu items like potato cones, corn fritters and
X-Tasy fries, topped with cheese, bacon and ranch.
In addition to the staples, the Troy Chicken Joe’s will feature some special local items as well.
Most menu items are less than $10 for a meal.
On why Chicken Joe’s decided to come to Troy, coowner Mike Sorbella said that many customers have been requesting a presence there for years. So, he and his partners listened to the customers. “We decided to come across the river,” Sorbella said.
While getting to know Troy through this business endeavor, Sorbella said he was surprised at how the city is very much a community.
“It’s like a big village,” he said, and Chicken Joe’s is excited to be a part of it.
“Our food and our atmosphere vibes with families,” Sorbella continued, and he hopes Troy families will soon enjoy the fare at Chicken Joe’s.
Likewise, the business is aiming to be a hit with area college students, who make up much of the company’s clientele in Albany.
Different from the Albany Chicken Joe’s location, the Campbell Avenue eatery will have a much larger seating area. “This is a little bit different approach,” said Sorbella, who is looking forward to hearing the immediate feedback from local customers as they eat. “Not everybody is going to write you a Yelp review tell you that your food is good, or that you could work on this, but you get a much more accurate pulse of what your customers want and how they want it if they’re in there with you.”
Some of Sorbella’s goals for the new restaurant are to be clean, fast and personable for customers, he said.
“Our business model only works if we’re part of the community,” Sorbella said, noting that this will be a main focus for the new site in years to come.
Once open, the Troy Chicken Joe’s with be the company’s sixth location.
