TROY, N.Y. » City police say a man who performed lewd acts in front of several women and attempted to abduct one of them is behind bars.

Police said Daniel K. Flowers, 39, was responsible for separate incidents that occurred July 29 in downtown Troy and another four days later near the Poestenkill Gorge. Police spokesman Rick Sprague said in an email that the public was instrumental in helping police to identify Flowers from video taken by city cameras in the areas around each incident.

The first incident occurred about 3:50 a. m. July 29 near Broadway and 3rd Street. Police said two women were approached by Flowers as they were walking to their vehicle, which was parked nearby. Flowers committed a lewd act in their presence, police said, then f led.

Then, on Aug. 2, police said Flowers approached two young women about 1:50 p. m. along the gorge near Cypress Street and again performed a lewd act. This time, however, Flowers attempted to assault and abduct one of the women, though they were able to fight him off and escape, police said.

Flowers was charged with two counts of public lewdness, one for each incident, as well as individual counts of second- degree attempted kidnapping and first- degree assault related to the Aug. 2 incident. He was arraigned Wednesday morning in Troy City Court and sent to the Rensselaer County jail without bail.

Sprague said a booking photo of Flowers was not being released by police.
