World War II- era B-17 to visit airport

COLONIE, N.Y. » One of the most iconic airplanes from World War II, the B-17 bomber Sentimenta­l Journey, will make a stop Monday at the Million Air hangar at Albany Internatio­nal Airport as part of its Summer Flying Legends of Victory Tour across the United States and Canada.

The B-17 will be joined by an SNJ- 4 trainer

from the Buffalo Heritage Squadron in Akron during its weeklong stay. Tours of the B-17 will be offered from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday, Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, with rides offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

The tour is sponsored ny the Arizona Commemorat­ive Air Force Museum, with three restored World War II combat aircraft — including the C- 47/ DC- 3 combat legend Old Number 30 and the B-25 Bomber Maid in the Shade, as well as the Sentamenta­l Journey — following separate routes across the U. S. and Canada and visiting about 50 cities between June

through October to educate the public about the role of aviation in combat.

Tickets to tour the B-17 are $10 per person or $20 for a family of four, while seats for a ride are $ 425 for a waist compartmen­t seat or $850 USD for a bombardier or navigator seat in the nose. Each flight is limited to eight passengers, though flights on the SNJ- 4 are also being offered for $360.
