Treasure hunt featured at monthly downtown event

TROY, N.Y.» Troy Night Outers are invited to explore and discover new downtown spots during this month’s treasure hunt.

The August edition of Troy Night Out, a monthly downtown districtwi­de arts and cultural event hosted by the Downtown Troy Business Improvemen­t District, will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday throughout the neighborho­od’s par- ticipating businesses.

Friday’s event will feature a Troy Night Out treasure hunt for all ages. Participat­ing restaurant­s and stores will each have a piece of treasure hidden in their space, and with the Troy Night Out map, attendees are encouraged to find the treasure throughout the district at 34 different sites.

Once the treasure is found, the businesses will mark hunters’ maps with an “X.” Completed treasure maps with 20 or more marks will be entered into a drawing to receive Troy- centric prizes. Winners will be contacted the following week to pick up their prizes.

The treasure hunt is designed help people discover new places within the district that they may not have visited before, finding the treasure in downtown Troy.

Special events this Troy Night Out include a Backto- School Braids & Brow Bar and a photobooth to create and capture a new look at Copperfox, and Coffee + Cream affogatos at Superior Merchandis­e Company.

For history and culture, The Rensselaer County Historical Society will present a World War I Discussion with John Kelly, a retired U. S. Army officer, dressed in full soldier’s uniform with artifacts, Jack “The King” Kirby Art Tribute of the legendary comic book creator at Argyle Gallery, and a burlesque performanc­e and the L’Origine du Monde: Eroticism exhibit at Scarlet Seven Fine Art Gallery (for ages 17 and older).

The Arts Center of the Capital Region will present Our Place, an exhibi- tion in collaborat­ion with the Roarke Center Artists, performanc­es in Artists Take Action, and for the little ones, kid’s drawing and painting with the new Studio Sprouts Program.

Beyond these places there will be plenty more treasure to find at Troy Night Out stops throughout the downtown.

After official Troy Night Out hours, event-goers can extend their night with Midnight Brunch with Brad’s food truck at The Bradley or a dance party with music by DJ Trumastr at Lucas Confection­ary.

Troy Night Out programs will be available at participat­ing businesses in the downtown area, the Downtown Troy BID office located at 251 River St. or online at www.downtowntr­oy.org/troy-night-out.
