FAIRLY HEALTHY
Information offered Friday during event
SCHAGHTICOKE, N. Y. » Attendees were able to receive some valuable health information from several different information tables setup at the Schaghitcoke Fair on Friday.
The tables were arranged in a tent near the Poultry Building on the fairgrounds as part of the theme of the day Friday, which was Health Awareness Day, sponsored by St. Peter’s Health Partners.
There were representatives from United Healthcare Medicare Solutions, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Eddy’s Alzheimer’s Services, and the American Heart Association and the National Safety Council in attendance.
On Friday af ternoon, several people went to the health awareness tent to receive information from the various places.
“We were just checking with the lady from Cornell Cooperative Extension about sugar content for dia-
betics,” explained Ron Hathaway of Waterford. “My wife and I are both pre- diabetic, so we have to watch what we drink especially with all the sugars.”
“I need some new hearing-aids, so I was wondering if my health insurance could pay for part of it,” added Hoosick Falls resident Merton Houghton, who was visiting with the United Healthcare Medicare Solutions representatives.
Fairgoers also said they think it is a good idea to have these health information tables’ set up at the fair for people to receive information.
“I think there are a lot of people that don’t understand things like Alzheimer’s, so I think it’s good to have these information tables here,” said Guilderland resident Marie Provost after looking at the Alzheimer’s table.
“This is an excellent idea to do at the fair,” added Hathaway. “I think there are so many people who don’t realize how much sugar is in a can of soda.”
