» Town Supervisor Lou Desso has formally announced that he will seek re- election to a second term, pledging to continue focusing on people, not politics, to keep the town moving forward.

In a statement, Desso said he plans to continue working hard to achieve positive results that put families first, protect taxpayers and improve the quality of town life

“My focus as town supervisor is putting people before politics and achievingpositive results thatwill make North Greenbush an even better, more affordable place to live,” Desso said. “That is exactly what I have done and, with the continued strong support of North Greenbush voters and the Town Board, that is what I will continue doing to preserve, protect and enhance our special quality of life.”

Desso was first elected town supervisor in 2015 after serving a combined eight years as a Rensselaer County legislator, town councilman and deputy town supervisor. He is opposed in the Nov. 7 general election by Democrat Ronald Sinico, but the two will square off Tuesday in a primary for the Independence Party line in November.

“I believe public service is an opportunity to serve others and give back to the community that has been so supportive of me, both in my public service and my personal life,” said Desso. “I love North Greenbush. It is an honor to serve, represent and lead our wonderful community, and I look forward to a positive campaign focused on how far we have come and how much more we can still achieve.”

Among the achievements Desso pointed to in his first two- year term are a 3- percent town property tax cut for 2018; an improved AA credit rating for the town; establishment of a Tax Stabilization Reserve Fund; securing $ 6 million in grant funding forwater, road and community improvements; and instituting fiscal responsibility across town government.

“I didn’t achieve all these successes alone,” he said. “My elected partners in town government, town employees, private sector job creators, nonprofits and, most of all, North Greenbush taxpayers have worked with me to make these results happen. I’m thankful for their strong partnership.”

Desso and his wife, Deb, who have lived in the town for more than 30 years, have two grown children and two grandchildren.

“There are great things happening inNorth Greenbush, andthe best is still to come.” Desso concluded.
