COHOES - Gregory J. Stroyen, Sr., 69, of Elm Street, Cohoes passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at his residence.

Born in Cohoes, he was the son of the late George and Nadjaadj Cherniak Stroy Stroy37 en and beloved husband of years to Joyce C. Tomp - kins Stroyen of Cohoes.

A life- long active member of St. Nicholas Rusand sian Orthodox Church in Cohoes, Greg was an altar server, sang in the choir for many years and also served on the church board. He was a member of the OCA former R Club. He vol - unteered his time making perogi and working the flea market. He received his Bachelor’s degree in History and Russian from the University at Albany in 1970. He worked for many years and retired as a re - tirement examiner for the NYS Retirement system. After retirement, Greg en - joyed working at Bill’s Restaurant taurant in many capacities, prepping, cooking, wait - ing tables and most of all, socializin­g with everyone. Greg had a very generous heart and would help any - one. He was an avid sports enthusiast and a lifelong LA Dodgers, NY Giants and Boston Celtics fan. He enjoyed playing Pinochle, fishing, walking and was a great polka dancer. And we all know, he was noted for his rice pudding.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daugh - ter, Nadine ( Thomas) Knapp of Bloomfield, NJ, his son, Gregory ( Lindsay) of Laurel, Md, his beloved grandchild­ren, Maeve and Thomas Knapp, his sisters, Georgiana Sichuk of Lin - coln Park, NJ, Julie ( John) Wanchisen of Endicott, NY and Stephanie ( Paul) An - druchow of Stoughton, MA, his uncle, Walter Cherniak, his cousins, Stephen and Daniele Cherniak. He is also survived by his moth - er in law, Wally Genier and many much loved nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as many brothers and sisters in law, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held in St. Nicholas Rus2017 sian Orthodox Church, 67 Saratoga St, Cohoes on Monday, September 25, at 10: 00.

Interment will be in St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cemetery, Boght Corners.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call at St. Nicholas Church, Sunday from 3 - 6 P. M.

A Panakhyda will be held at 6 o’clock in the Church at the conclusion of calling hours.
