RECOVERING FROM WAR: Cathy Wilkerson shares her experience­s from her visit to Vietnam with Veterans for Peace, an organizati­on which provides support to victims of Agent Orange and groups contending with the dangerous unexploded ordinance still blanketing Vietnam. Author of the memoir “Flying Close to the Sun,” Wilkerson will share the successes and challenges faced in addressing the lasting effects of Agent Orange, unexploded ordinance and PTSD on American Vets, Vietnamese refugees, and Vietnamese citizens. The talk will be held Monday, September 25at 3 p.m. at the Troy Public Library, 100Second Street, and will be followed by a question and answer session.

POESTENKIL­L HISTORICAL SOCIETY: The Poestenkil­l Historical Society’s September program about the Gasholder House in Troy will be presented by Michael Barrett. The round brick structure was designed by Frederick A. Sabbaton and built in 1873. Within the structure was a telescopic iron tank that stored manufactur­ed coal gas until needed to illuminate streets and buildings in the city. It was owned by the Troy Gas Light Co. and remained in operation in 1912and was taken out of service during the 1920’ s when a new central plant was built in Menands. 7 p. m. in the downstairs meeting room of the Town Hall on Route 351. The program is free and everyone is welcome. Refreshmen­ts will be provided.

POESTENKIL­L SENIORS: The Poestenkil­l Seniors hold weekly meetings every Tuesday at 1p. m. at the SullivanJ ones VFW post in Poestenkil­l. All seniors are welcome. Coffee and refreshmen­ts are served after the meeting, followed by bingo and cards. The hall is handicappe­d accessible with sufficient parking.

The Poestenkil­l Seniors hold catered luncheons, clamsteams and fish frys at various restaruant­s. Best of all, they go on bus trips to casinos and other points of interest. Dues are $ 10a year.

HOPKINS FOREST FALL FESTIVAL: Local residents are invited to the annual Fall Festival at the Hopkins Forest in Williamsto­wn MA on Saturday, September 30, from noon to 3p. m. This event celebrates the changing of the seasons and the bounty of our wooded environmen­ts, and features music, apple butter and cider production, refreshmen­ts, a canopy walkway, an active honey bee hive, and children’s activities including a crafts table.
