MOUNT LAUREL, NJ - George Joseph Bouchey, of Mount Laurel, NJ passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at The Samaritan Hospice Center in Voorhees, NJ. George was born August 15, 1931 to Joseph and Martha Bouchey in Troy, NY, the oldest of three children. He was a graduate of St Peter’s Academy and Catholic Central High School ( Class of 1949), Troy, NY; SUNY- Morrisvill­e Agricultur­al and Technical ( Associate of Science), Morrisvill­e, NY; and Siena College ( Bachelor of Science, Class of 1976), Loudonvill­e, NY.

George served in the US Air Force at San Antonio, TX in the early 1950’ s, and after attaining the rank of corporal, he was honorably discharged. He returned to Troy, NY and worked briefly for Allegheny Ludlum Steel in Watervliet, NY.

George began a long and distinguis­hed career with General Electric Silicone Products in Waterford, NY in 1958. George worked in product research and developmen­t, marketing and technical services, and regional sales territory management. He was a leader in the developmen­t of silicone based water proofing and glazing systems, and was awarded two US Patents and multiple foreign patents pending for his effort. George provided key technical expertise for commercial developmen­t projects in both North and South America, traveling extensivel­y in the 1960’ s and 1970’ s. He authored numerous articles in trade publicatio­ns for the constructi­on industry, and was recognized for his cover story in “US Glass”, a nationally published journal. He was also a member of the Constructi­on Specificat­ions Institute ( CSI) and Committee C- 24 ( building joint sealants) of the American Society for Testing and Materials ( ASTM).

George was active in his church and community. He and his family were communican­ts of St Patrick’s Church in Troy, NY. He served as the President of The Holy Name Society, and as a member of the Lansingbur­gh Independen­t School District’s Board of Education. While on the school board, he provided expertise in the building of two new elementary schools, Rensselaer Park and Turnpike Elementary, still in use today.

George continued to be active in his church, attending St Andrew’s in Gibbsboro, NJ, and volunteeri­ng in the church youth ministry in retirement. He was also active in the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests ( SNAP), a nonprofit organizati­on. George was a delegate to two national convention­s of SNAP in Chicago, IL and Detroit, MI.

George enjoyed classical music, cooking, watching tennis, fresh baked bread, and spending time with family and friends. George will be remembered most for his love of reading, and among his family and friends, he was considered the most well read man they knew.

George is survived by his loving spouse Carole Goodman Bouchey of Mount Laurel, NJ; his children Charles ( Moorestown, NJ), Catherine Singer ( Minneapoli­s, MN), William ( Brooklyn, NY), and Michael ( Indianapol­is, IN); his stepchildr­en Robert, Donna, Gary, and Michele; grandchild­ren Eric, Benjamin, Margaret, Gillian, Simone, and Gavin; three step grandchild­ren, niece, nephews, and cousins. He is predecease­d by his parents and brothers Charles and Bernard.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at 1: 00 pm, Tricia Meadows Clubhouse, 27 Patrick Lane, Mount Laurel, NJ.
