TROOY - Nancy N V.V Bar Brrett, 88, off Troy Troy, died on Sept.Sep 4, 2017 at Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center, Troy. Born in Troy, Nancy was the daugh- ter of Luke and Kathleen (Comiskey) Cavanagh. She graduated from Catholic Central High School, Maria College and College of St. Rose. Over her life, her employment included being Curator of the Rensselaer County Junior Museum, Deputy Rens. County Treasurer, NYS Legislatur­e, and Albany Director of the NYS Council on the Arts. She then became a selfemploy­ed artist renowned for selling her heirloom boxes to clients around the world, and she wrote the Troy Record social column.

Nancy was a beautiful, vivacious, and wonderfull­y eccentric woman who was very involved in her community and politics. She was previously a Trustee of Hudson Valley Community College, on the NYS Democratic Committee, a member of the Electoral College for Jimmy Carter, and on the Boards of numerous charities. Her final altruistic act was to give her body for scientific research to Albany Medical Center.

She is survived by her loving children, Bill (Pam O’Dell), Michael (Karen) and Beth (Cindy Camargo); her cherished grandchild­ren, Sara Allen, Mike Barrett Jr., and Linden Barrett-Stearns (Justin); four beloved great-grandchild­ren and numerous nieces and nephews that she adored. She was predecease­d by her parents and her sisters Jeanne Mealey, and Carol Sweeney.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at The Eddy Terrace, Eddy Courtyard, and especially Marjorie Doyle Rockwell Center for the loving, compassion­ate com passionate care they bestowed on Nancy over the last 3 years.

A Celebratio­n of Nancy’s Life will be held on Oct 15 at 11:30 a.m. at Parti, 309 3rd Ave, Troy. Please call (518) 235-1838 to RSVP. Memorial donations in Nancy’s name may be made to the Hudson-Mohawk Industrial Gateway, or the Alzheimer’s Associatio­n.
