Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County’s adult learners and tutors will share true and life-affirming stories as published in “In Their Own Words: Student and Tutor Stories.” Guest author Frankie Y. Bailey is a professor in the School of Criminal Justice at the University at Albany who has published five mysteries and

BRAIN FOOD FOR THE CURIOUS: New York State Museum historians and scientists will share their knowledge and research in a series of lunchtime talks this fall and winter. October 17, “Ten Thousand Women Descend on Albany: The 40th Anniversary of the New York State Women’s Meeting.” Each program includes a 20-minute talk with a State Museum historian or scientist followed by a question-and-answer period. POESTENKILL SENIORS:
The Poestenkill Seniors hold weekly meetings every Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the SullivanJones VFW post in Poestenkill. All seniors are welcome. Coffee and refreshments are served after the meeting, followed by bingo and cards. The hall is handicapped accessible with sufficient parking. The Poestenkill Seniors hold catered luncheons, clamsteams and fish frys at various restaruants. Best of all, they go on bus trips to casinos and other points of interest. Dues are $10 a year.

CANDIDATE FORUM: The League of Women Voters of Rensselaer County will host a candidate forum on Tuesday, October 17, at 7 p.m. at the Brunswick Community Center, 18 Keyes Lane (just off route 7). Candidates for county executive have been invited to participate. The forum will be moderated by Mary Berry of the Albany County League of Women Voters. This forum is free and open to the public. All residents of Rensselaer County are welcome to come and to bring questions to be submitted to the moderator for the candidates to answer.

ING: Throat-singing is an ancient style of overtone singing in which a single vocalist produces two, three, or even four pitches simultaneously, skillfully shaping a melody from harmonic tones arrayed over a continuous low drone. BEEF QUALITY ASSURANCE WORKSHOP: Beef Quality Assurance is a nationwide certification program to help ensure a safe, wholesome and quality beef product for consumers.
