HVCC names pair of interim officials
With the search for a new president underway and several top administrators retiring, Hudson Valley Community College is turning to a pair of veteran higher education leaders to take on interim roles in two vice presidential positions.
At its September meeting, the college’s Board of Trustees approved the selection of MaryAnn Janosik and Vance Valerio as interim leaders in the college’s Academic Affairs and Enrollment Management and Student Development offices, respectively. Janosik began her new position Oct. 9, while Valerio started Monday, repolacing Carolyn Curtis and Alex Popovics, who each retired after many years at HVCC.
“I’ve felt very strongly that the incoming president should be able to have a hand in selecting senior leadership,” said college President Drew Matonak, who plans to retire at the end of the school year. “Dr. Janosik and Dr. Valerio will bring decades of experience working in higher education and allow us to successfully bridge between two presidential administrations at the college.”
Janosik served the past two years as head of school for Stanford Online High School, an international college preparatory school for the gifted and talented affiliated with Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. Previously, she held positions as director of academic affairs for the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education, dean of the school of professional studies at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota, and provost and vice president for academic affairs at St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, Indiana.
Valerio’s recent positions have included special assistant to the president for enrollment management and student services at Maryhurst University in Portland, Oregon, senior consultant for enrollment management and student development at Kentucky Wesleyan College, and interim vice president for enrollment management and student affairs at New Jersey’s Felician College.
