UAlbany duo expected to shine

Great Danes’ Cremo, Nichols named preseason AE All-Conference

Two UAlbany players, David Nichols and Joe Cremo, have been selected to the 2017-18 America East Preseason All-Conference Team, announced by the league on Wednesday.

This is Cremo’s second year in a row on the preseason all-conference team, while Nichols makes his first appearance. Cremo is a 2015 graduate of Scotia-Glenville.

UAlbany tied for the most amount of representa­tives on the seven-member preseason all-conference team with Vermont.

Nichols earned America East All-Conference First Team honors last season, being the first UAlbany sophomore to earn that distinctio­n.

Cremo was placed on the America East All-Conference Second Team last year, being ninth in the America East with 15.8 points per game and sixth with 3.8 assists per game. He scored in double figures in 30 games, including four double doubles, and led the league with an 86.9% free throw rate.

The rest of the preseason all-conference team was filled out by Trae Bell-Haynes and Anthony Lamb of Vermont, Tanner Leissner of New Hampshire, Jairus Lyles of UMBC and Jahad Thomas of UMass Lowell.

Girls soccer

LANSINGBUR­GH 2, AMSTERDAM 1 » The Lansingbur­gh girls soccer team edged Amsterdam 2-1 to advance in the Section II Class A playoffs Tuesday night.

No. 8 seed Lansingbur­gh travels to No. 1 Scotia-Glenville for a 3 p.m. quarterfin­al match Thursday.

sack had the goals for the Knights who rallied from a 1-0 first half deficit to win. Josie Hadeka had an assist and Jillian Currier made six saves in the victory.

WILLARD 0 » Emily Vallee’s goal, just over a minute into the 2nd half, gave the Lady Horses a lead they did not relinquish. Nifty moves by sophomore Cass Cooper set up the goal. Cassie Patrick served up two perfect passes in a span of three minutes, which were buried by Emily Carlstrom and Brooke Keefer respective­ly for the insurance goals. Caitlin Kelleher made two point-blank stops late in the game to earn her arealeadin­g 12th shutout. MECHANICVI­LLE 6, ICHABOD CRANE 0 » Six different Red Raiders players scored in a rout of Ichabod Crane in a first-round Class B girls playoff game. Jada Brown, Mackenzie Bowie, Brynn Murphy, Lea Hickey, Mya Demarco and Nevaeh D’Aloia each tallied for undeated Mechanicvi­lle (160-1) who advances to host No. 7 seed Catskill Saturday in the quarterfin­al round.

Boys soccer

TAMARAC 1, COBLESKILL­RICHMONDVI­LLE 0 (2 OT)

» Jack Mulligan came through with the sudden death goal in the second overtime to lead the Bengals to a Section II Class B playoff win. Chase Ali had the assist and Tamarac goalkeeper Tyler Petersen made 12 saves in the shutout.

The No. 7 seed advances to play at No. 2 Schuylervi­lle at 7 p.m. Thursday. STILLWATER 3, GRANVILLE 0» Grant Baker scored in the first half and Cooper Manast and Jack Rubenstein added second-half tallies for the Warriors in a Section II Class C playoff win. Monast and Brandon DeBacco added assists for No. 6 seeded Stillwater, who advances to face No. 2 Greenwich in the Class CC quarterfin­als 3 p.m. Thursday at Greenwich.

BERGEN 3, HVCC 1 » Maple Hill grad Garrett Axtmann scored for the Vikings (87) but it wasn’t enough in a defeat.

BALLSTON SPA GIRLS WIN

LEAGUE TRI-MEET » Ballston Spa’s Faith Demars clocked a 19:33 to edge Burnt HillsBalls­ton Lake’s Rory Graham by a second to win a girls race that also included Schenectad­y at Colonie Town Park Tuesday.

The Scotties beat the Spartans 27-28 and the Patriots 17-42.

Ballston Spa’s Olivia Skylstad was third in 19:36 followed by Burnt Hills teammates Kristin McAlonen and Monica Jerry.

Boys volleyball

25-17, 25-17 and 25-20. Michael Ortale led the Eagles with 15 kills and Eric Salo added seven kills. Bethlehem also had 34 assists from Caleb Federman.

College field hockey

SHEN GRAD CHOSEN FOR SENIOR GAME » UAlbany senior Anna Bottino, a 2014 Shen grad, has been chosen for the 2017 Victory Sports Tours/National Field Hockey Coaches Associatio­n Division I Senior Game.

Bottino was one of 50 players across all of DI field hockey to be named as participan­ts. Last season, UAlbany’s seniors Maxi Primus and Paula Heuser participat­ed in the 2016 Senior Game. This year the Senior Game will be played following the semifinals of the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championsh­ip, November 17th at the University of Louisvilll­e.

Anna Bottino and the Great Danes return to action on October 20th vs. Vermont at 2 p.m. on Alumni Turf.
