Red Cross to honor Real Heroes on Nov. 2

TROY, N.Y. » The American Red Cross of Northeaste­rn New York will honor ordinary citizens who have performed extraordin­ary acts of service in the community at its annual Real Heroes Breakfast on Thursday, Nov. 2, at the Hilton Garden Inn on Hoosick Street.

The Red Cross will honor U.S. Marine Corps Capt. David T. Wallingfor­d as its 2017 Military Hero; Bimbo Bakeries USA and the Albany Freihofer’s Cake Bakery Associates as Good Neighbor Heroes; Red Cross volunteers deployed in response to hurricanes, wildfires and other natural disasters as its Emergency Relief Heroes; and Barbara and Paul Wersten as iots Blood Donor Heroes.

“This year’s Real Heroes embody every facet of the Red Cross mission,” said Gary Striar, CEO of the American Red Cross of Northeaste­rn New York. “From serving local veterans, to collecting lifesaving blood, to intervenin­g in the

face of emergencie­s and responding to help families who’ve been devastated by disasters, these people have saved lives in more ways than one. It’s our honor to be able to celebrate them and to share their inspiring stories at our Real Heroes

Breakfast.”

The breakfast will be hosted by John Gray, news anchor for WTENTV (News 10) and a Record columnist. Tickets are $30, including breakfast, with all proceeds benefiting the Red Cross.
