Downtown Troy will celebrate Halloween on Friday during October’s Troy Night Out, offering tricks and spooky festivities for event-goers to shop, dine and explore.

The monthly festival, hosted by the Downtown Troy Business Improvement District, will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. throughout downtown. For October’s Halloween theme, the event will include costumes, trick or treating and fall cuisine available at local eateries.

The annual Mysteries and Mayhem tour will return this year, presented by Old Troy Stories. The guided walking tour will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and is sure to delight those in search of historically spooky and hairraising adventures. Tours are provided jointly by the Hudson Mohawk Industrial Gateway and the Rensselaer County Historical Society. Tickets are $15, $10 for students and seniors, and can be purchased at www. eventbrite.com.

Troy Night Out attendees can uncover more secrets at Enigmatic Escapes, the downtown district’s only escape room. Those who come in costume will receive 10 percent off.

Music will fill the trickor-treating route, with Oobleck in Monument Square, the Lawson & Pease Trio playing celtic music at Segel Violins, Crazy Swedes and Will Severin at Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, a live DJ and horror film screening at The Daily Grind, and DJ Trumastr at Lucas Confectionary & Wine Bar.

Creative art fans can enjoy new exhibitions at Argyle Gallery, the Rensselaer County Historical Society, The Arts Center of the Capital Region, Scarlett Seven Gallery and The Photography Center, which is featuring its annual Members Show, where any costumed visitor can leave with a free portrait.

Henry Loves Betty will host its Hound + Human Happy Hour, featuring a pop-up with The Ruck and an annual dog costume contest.

All are encouraged to wear their most creative costumes for prizes at Hippies, Witches, and Gypsies, which will have a smudging canopy and other surprises. Takk House is throwing its annual Halloween dance party with a photo booth and costume contest.

Fall flavors include a Cookie Butter Latte from little peck’s cafe, spookythemed cocktails at The Shop, and pumpkin pasta or pumpkin chili at Hudson-Chatham Winery.

Troy Night Out-ers can find an event program at participating downtown businesses, the Downtown Troy BID office, 251 River St. or online at www.downtowntroy.org/troy-night-out or www.facebook.com/troynightout. Listings are also available through the Troy Night Out mobile phone app.
