Free meal set for Thursday

TROY, N.Y. » For a seventh year in a row, Billy Carter of Kingdom Ministries will be providing a free Thanksgivi­ng Day meal to anyone in the community.

Carter said that his group has enough food for nearly 300 people from the Collar City and beyond to attend the free Thanksgivi­ng meal on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Christ Church at 35 State St. in downtown Troy.

Thanks to many donations and volunteers, Kingdom Ministries and other local churches will be able to provide baked ham and turkey meals along with macaroni and cheese, stuffing, sweet potatoes, beans, beverages and desserts.

Carter said Bella Napoli bakery is providing all of the dessert meals for guests to enjoy on the holiday. Carter also mentioned other important businesses and organizati­ons that will be helping to provide the free meals, such as K Plate restaurant, Nite Owl News, Albany Sarang Fellowship Church, Fidelis Healthcare, Troy Vision Center, city councilman Bob Dougherty, the mayor’s office and the Troy Fire Department.

“This is a collaborat­ion of churches and businesses that really stepped up to the plate,” said Carter.

Carter said volunteers will also deliver meals to anyone who calls, and will also deliver roughly 70 meals to senior citizens in Burns Apartments in downtown Troy.

Guests who attend the free meal at Christ Church will also be able to receive free children books donated by Scholastic Book Company along with being able to receive free clothing and houseware items from the church. Carter also mentioned how Kingdom Ministries co-founder Peter Rhee of Nite Owl News, and now a pastor, will also be in attendance and will be speaking there Thursday.
