Brunswick teen chosen for 4-H award
SCHAGHTICOKE, N.Y. » Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rensselaer County has chosen a Brunswick teen as recipient of the annual Rosekrans Award presented by the group’s 4-H program. Gabrielle “Abbie” Tar--
box was selected for the honor, presented in memory of Helen Rosekrans, a longtime cattle leader and Schaghticoke Fair “mom,” to recognize an outstanding graduating highschool senior who has been a model 4-H member involved in the cattle program throughout their career.
Abbie, daughter of David and Jane Tarbox, grew up on a multi-generational dairy farm and has worked the farm since she could hold a pitchfork. She has been a 4-H member for 15 years and has participated in numerous activities on the county, state and national level, including the Dairy Bowl team.
Cooperative Extension officials said Abbie is a true advocate for agriculture, giving numerous public presentations, representing the county in the New York Junior Dairy Lead Program and traveling to Alaska and Arizona through the Teen Exchange Program.
“Abbie is an enthusiastic and dedicated young leader, from giving tips in the show ring to giving assistance with clipping,” the group said in a news release. “Abbie is al-
ways there when her peers need her.
A June graduate of Tamarac High School, Abbie is a freshman at Cor- nell University, majoring in dairy science, and plans to pursue a career in agriculture.
