ALZHEIMER’S/DEMENTIA CAREGIVING SERIES: Troy Public Library is hosting an Alzheimer’s and Dementia Caregiver’s Series presented by the Alzheimer’s Associatio­n. Session 2in the 3part series will be held November 28at 2 p.m.at the main library, 100 Second Street. As people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias progress in their journey and the ability to use words is lost, families need new ways to connect. Explore how communicat­ion takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to connect and communicat­e at each stage of the disease. BRAIN FOOD FOR THE CURIOUS: New York State Museum historians and scientists share their knowledge and research in a series of lunchtime talks this fall and winter. November 28, “Astronauts of Inner-Space: The Millbrook Commune and the ‘60s.” Explore New York’s unique role in the psychedeli­c ‘60s through the history of the Millbrook Commune, Timothy Leary’s ‘Grounded Space Colony’ housed on a 2,500-acre estate in Dutchess County. 12:10 p.m. – 12:40p.m., in the Huxley Theater, 1st Floor, Cultural Education Center, 222Madison Avenue, Albany. CMOST: Join CMOST for the My Parent & Me science class, “Creature Comforts.” This is a chance for children and caregivers to interact, explore, imagine and discover the world of science together. EAST SIDE SENIORS: The East Side Seniors’ next regular meeting will be on November 28. Team 5will be the host/ hostess. Meetings start at 1 p.m., preceded by the pledge to the Flag, and a moment of silence. The meetings are held at The American Legion Post, Main Ave., Wynantskil­l. POESTENKIL­L HISTORICAL SOCIETY: In early 1864, a nineteen-year-old Irish immigrant named Kate Mullany organized the shirt collar laundry workers of Troy, New York, into the nation’s first truly all-female labor union. Their weeklong strike yielded them a twenty-five per cent raise and vaulted Mullany to national prominence. Today, the house that she bought for her family is a National Historic Site and the home of the American Labor Studies Center, which helps educate young Americans about the history of labor in the United States. Tom Carroll’s talk will tell that story at 7 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room of the Town Hall on Route 351. The program is free and everyone is welcome. Refreshmen­ts will be provided. POESTENKIL­L SENIORS: The Poestenkil­l Seniors hold weekly meetings every Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Sullivan-Jones VFW Post in Poestenkil­l. All seniors are welcome. Coffee and refreshmen­ts are served after the meeting, followed by bingo and cards. The hall is handicappe­d-accessible with sufficient parking. The Poestenkil­l Seniors hold catered luncheons, clam-steams and fish frys at various restaurant­s. Best of all, they go on bus trips to casinos and other points of interest. Dues are $10a year. MIRACLE ON 15TH STREET: On Wednesday, November 29,

at 7p.m., The Hill at Muza will light an 18foot spruce tree from Bob’s Trees in Galway. The tree will stand on an outdoor “stage” area, about six feet above the beer garden, and is decorated with 500feet of twinkling Christmas lights. Duly Noted, an All-Male RPI student acapella group, will perform holiday carols and songs for the crowd from 7p.m. to 9p.m., and will be joined by a special surprise musical guest, or two. Compliment­ary plates of Christmas cookies from The Cookie Factory will be served. The Hill is an outgrowth of Muza, the adjacent Polish restaurant on 15th Street in Troy.
