Joseph M. Skiba, Jr.

VALLEY FALLS - Joseph M. Skiba, Jr., of Powder Mill Road passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at his residence. He was 71.

Born in Troy on January 15, 1946, son of the late Joseph and Loretta (Fitzgerald) Skiba. He is the husband of Cathy (Boivin) Skiba whom he married May 24, 1974.

Joe was a proud veteran of the US Navy serving from 1965-1967. He worked as a laborer for the Rensselaer County Highway Department, retiring after over 25 years. He was a volunteer for the honor guard at the Gerald B. H. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery and the fire police for the Valley Falls Fire Department.

Survivors in addition to his wife Cathy Skiba of Valley Falls include his children, Joseph M. Skiba, III ofof Valley Vll Falls Fll and Michelle (Punky) Comstock of Quaker Springs. Also survived by his siblings, Catherine Euranius, Sophie Skiba, Lucy Wood, Peter Skiba and John Skiba as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his sister Bernice Ricci and her husband.

Relatives and friends may call from 5-7pm on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke. A service will be conducted at 7:00pm following visiting hours. Burial with military honors will be at 11:30am on Friday, December 1, 20177 at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
