Downtown Troy BID to hand out awards

TROY, N.Y. » The Downtown Troy Business Improvemen­t District will host its 6th Annual Dinner and Sammy Awards on Wednesday at the Franklin Plaza Ballroom, 4 4th Street.

Doors open at 5 p.m., with the Sammy Awards presented at 5:30, followed by dinner and networking at 6.

This year, the BID is recognizin­g Plumb Restaurant & Bar as New Business of the Year, Market Block Books as Establishe­d Business of the Year and Troy resident, volunteer and organizer Geri De Seve with the Sammy Spirit Award.

Owned and operated by Heidi Knoblauch, Plumb Restaurant & Bar opened in December 2016 and serves fresh oysters, craft spirits and locally sourced cuisine, while Market Block Books opened in November 2004 as an offspring of The Book House in Albany and has grown into an anchor of the downtown retail community.

Meanwhile, De Seve, a resident of downtown Troy, is responsibl­e, with her husband, for the restoratio­n of many downtown buildings, assisted in the creation of the Victorian Stroll and engages with the community through a host of other volunteer efforts.

Sponsorshi­p packages and honorary committee tickets are still available. Honorary committee tickets are $250, while general admission tickets are $75, and can be purchased online at www.downtowntr­oy.org/annual-dinner.
