ShopRite set to open N. Greenbush store
ShopRite to open first Rensselaer County store Dec. 10
NORTH GREENBUSH, N.Y. » After being vacant for nearly 15 years, the much-anticipated Van Rensselaer Square shopping plaza at the intersection of routes 4 and 43 will soon welcome a supermarket that will serve as one of its anchors and is expected to create more than 175 new jobs.
ShopRite Supermarkets announced this week it will open the doors of its new 55,000- square foot store at 7 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 10. The chain’s first store in Rensselaer County will feature a large selection of fresh produce and meat, natural and organic products, ready-toeat foods, a bakery, a deli and a floral section.
“The time is finally here,” North Greenbush Town Supervisor Lou Desso said Tuesday afternoon.“The town of North Greenbush has waited 15 years for the opening of [the] Van Rensselaer Square shopping plaza. ShopRite is the driving force for what’s to
come, and we couldn’t be more grateful and pleased to welcome them and have them as a partner in our community.”
An official ribbon- cutting ceremony with local dignitaries is scheduled for 9 a.m. Dec. 10. At that event, the company will demonstrate its commitment to the community with donations to the TriCounty Council of Vietnam Era Veterans, a nonprofit organization that aids and assists veterans and their families in the Capital Region, and a local food pantry
“We are pleased to an- nounce our expansion in the Capital Region with the opening of our North Greenbush store,” Brett Wing, president and CEO of ShopRite Supermarkets, which operates 34 stores in New York and New Jersey, said in a news release. “This store, its product offerings and services will allow us to better serve the needs of lo- cal shoppers and enhance their overall shopping experience.”
The store will be open from 6 a. m. to midnight Monday through Saturday and 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays. In addition to self- checkout lanes, ShopRite will offer a new service, Mobile Scan, that allows customers to use the camera on their cellphone or other mobile device to scan the barcodes of items and literally checkout as they shop.
Customers can also use the ShopRite Deli & More app to place their deli order ahead of time for instore pickup or use the ShopRite from Home online service, where ShopRite associates personally fill online grocery orders that customers can pick up at the store.
With an emphasis on reducing its eco-footprint, the new store incorporates energy- efficient refrigeration and lighting, including glass doors on all dairy and freezer cases and LED lighting throughout the store and its parking lot. ShopRite also has invested in a Second Nature refrigeration technology system, which uses carbon dioxide, an all-natural refrigerant that is harmless to the environment, as a coolant.
“The town has gone through great pains to grow our local economy and to ensure quality construction that is consistent with our architectural guidelines and overall mission”, said Desso. “ShopRite has partnered with North Greenbush to produce a beautiful, modern, state of the art supermarket that will benefit our residents for years to come.”
ShopRite is just one in a list of tenants committed to the plaza, with “coming soon” signs at the plaza’s entrance touting Five Below and Michaels among those to soon fill the plaza.
