BABES IN TROYLAND: Now in its third year, “Babes in Troyland” fills the Takk House, 55Third Street, downtown Troy, with more than 20 antique, vintage and crafts vendors on Saturday December 9, from 1p.m. to 7p.m. and Sunday December 10, from 11 a.m. to 4p.m. Admission is $5 for the whole weekend. Sale items include candles, clothing, jewelry, original art prints, essential oils, dog apparel, children’s items, vinyl records, housewares, instruments, furniture, books, tools and more. The bazaar will also feature cocktails, a “beer garden,” with food catered by The Ruck; a whiskey tasting by Albany Distilling Co.; a coffee bar by Lost Highway Coffee Co.; and locally-made sweets. Live entertainment ranges from Elizabethan minstrels to a very badly behaving Santa Claus. Babes in Troyland is sponsored by The Ruck. BELIEVE: The Albany Gay Men’s Chorus will present their Christmas concert, “Believe,” on Saturday, December 9, at the First Congregational Church, 405Quail Street Albany, NY (off New Scotland Ave) at 4p.m. Tickets are $12 for Adults, $9for Students, and Free for Children under 12. The Schenectady Photographic Society presents an exhibit of photographic works by its members at the Guilderland Public Library daily from December 2 through December 28during the library’s normal operating hours. REINVIGORATING DEMOCRACY: Blaire Horner, executive director of the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG), will discuss the steps that should be taken to reverse NYS’s awful record in voter registration and turnout. New York requires that voters register at least 25days before an election, one of the earliest deadlines in the nation. In the 2016election, the Presidential debates had not ended by New York’s registration deadline. New York had one of the lowest voter turnouts in its history. RPI HOLIDAY CONCERT: The 2017President’s Holiday Concert at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute will take place on Sunday, December 10, at 3p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) on campus. The Rensselaer Orchestra, under the direction of Nicholas DeMaison, will present a semi-staged version of “Peer Gynt,” the 1867play by Henrik Ibsen with music by Edvard Grieg. Joining the orchestra will be the Rensselaer Concert Choir, members of the Instrumental Fellows ensemble, members of the The RPI Players, and soprano Kimberley Osburn. The production also will feature the work of students in the Sculpture II class of Jefferson Kielwagen, who is a lecturer in the Depart- ment of Arts. HONOR A DECEASED VETERAN: The Rensselaer County Honor a Deceased Veteran Program honors Edward L. Pratt at this month’s ceremony on December 11at 8:30a.m. in the Legislative Chambers on te third Floor of the County Office Building. 1600Seventh Avenue, Troy. Edward served in the United States Army as a Medic during World War II earning The Silver and Bronze Star Medals, among many others, for saving fellow wounded soldiers during several battles in Europe. After the war he worked for Sterling Drug in Rensselaer and as Director of Analytical Chemistry at the Sterling Winthrop Research Institute in East Greenbush.
