R. FRANCES VANBUREN FRANKO
JOHNSTOWN - R. Frances VanBuren Franko, age 99, of Johnstown, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Wells Nursing Home with her loving family by her side. She was born June 20, 1918 in Gloversville (C4C), the daughter of the late Otho and Julia Perine Conover. Frances was a graduate of Gloversville High School and attended Business Schools. Mrs. Franko was secretary to the dean of Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute until her retirement. She was of the Methodist faith and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Wells House Auxiliary and St. Patrick’s choir. Frances loved her cabin in Speculator, NY and she always loved to travel. Survivors include her daughter Barbara VanBuren Mullens and her husband John; two stepsons Mike Franko (Rita) and Fred Franko (Sue), one granddaughter Kelly Rose Mullens; two great granddaughters Isla Rose Lawrence and Cora Rose Lawrence, one grandson Tyler VanBuren and four stepgrandchildren Mia Franko, Gina Franko, Scott Hock and Erika Hock. Mrs. Franko was predeceased by her first husband Barnett VanBuren whom she married on August 20, 1945 upon his return from war in the Pacific Theatre and whom passed on March 17, 1982, second husband Frederick Franko whom she married on August 15, 1984 and whom passed on April 2, 2005, one son Donald VanBuren whom passed July, 2015 and one grandson Cory Mullens whom passed November 24, 1996. The family of Mrs. Franko would like to send a warm thank you to everyone at the Wells House for their kindness and caring. A brief memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher Street, Johnstown immediately followed by interment at the Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville with Rev. Dr. Moon Ho Kim officiating.
