NEW LEBANON - Lawrence R. “Pops” LaFerriere 77, of Rte. 20 died suddenly on Wednesday December 13, 2017 at his residence. A man that loved God. A man who throughout his life saved many a forgotten child. His life was dedicated to the Lord and his belief that no child should suffer. Lawrence grew up in Cohoes, NY. A 1959 Cohoes High School graduate, he joined the United States Air Force in the early 1960’s. He was educated at SUNY Albany. After college he worked for the Boys Club of Albany and late became the Youth Director at the Troy YMCA. It was here he started a weight lifting team for the health of the mind and body. Lawrence was a Junior Olympic Chairman and weightlift­ing coach. He worked for and retired from the Berkshire Farm Center and Services for Youth after 22 years. He loved camping, fishing and nature. In retirement he wrote poetry and short stories. In dedication to the Lord he held a Bible Study Group at his home. He was a member of the New Life Evangelica­l Church in Pittsfield, MA. Lawrence was predecease­d by his parents late Amos and Dorothy Richards LaFerriere, half brother Joseph LaFerriere and half sister Helen Ceceilia. Lawrence is survived be a cousin Lawrence Richards, sister in law Maria LaFerriere and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the hundreds of children he helped in his lifetime. Relatives and friends are invited to call 4-7 p.m.at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake , Averill Park on Thursday December 21 with a service to follow at 7 p.m. It is suggested donations in memory of Lawrence FaFerriere be made to www.teenchalle­ngeusa.com
