AFGHANISTA­N LECTURE: Guest speaker Younus Samadzada presents his perspectiv­e on the changing character of religion and culture in Afghanista­n. The region has a long history openness to many religions: both Sunni and Shia Muslims, Zoroastria­ns, Sikhs, Hindus, Jews, Roman Catholics and Buddhists. Very few adherents of most of these religions remain. By the 1950s, the dominant religion had become Sunni Muslim, and both the government and warring factions have instituted strict adherence in recent years.
