Skiier Norah Dempsey claims NYSEF giant slalom

WILMINGTON, N.Y. >> Saratoga Springs alpine skiier Norah Dempsey captured first place overall and also within the U16Divison of the New York Ski Eduational Foundation New Year’s Giant Slalom.

Dempsey felt “good on the course” and led early. When Dempsey was asked if there was any special ritual before her run, she answered, “to think positive…be consistent and tuck to the finish.” Dempsey is a part of NYSEF’s Winter Term program. The Winter Term program allows aspiring junior athletes the opportunit­y to access top-tier training and coaching opportunit­ies, while continuing remotely in their school’s curricula through one-on-one tutoring support. When Dempsey is not skiing, she enjoys mountain biking and playing soccer. She plans to be a frequent visitor to Lake Placid after the season and hopes to attend Northwood in the near future. LASALLE 63, WATERVLIET 57 >> The Cadets rebounded from a disappoint­ing third quarter to rally for the 64-57 win over previously league undefeated Cannoneers Wednesday night.

Ian Duncan led LaSalle with 17points followed by Joe Delollo with 13along with Raymond Evans, Seth LaForest and Connor Cepiel with 10-points each. Watervliet’s JJ Chesnut scored a team-high 16points followed by Derrick Beason with 13, Messiah Mallory with 11and Joey Atkins with 10. 26points and Evan McCart’s 21still weren’t enough to get past Mount Anthony Wednesday Night. Trailing 36-28at the half, Hoosick Falls rallied for a 24-point third quarter and a threepoint lead but Mt. Anthony came back for the win, led by Matthew Steadman’s team-high 19points and Abe Amiden dropping in 13. GALWAY 59, HOOSICK VALLEY 19>> Thor White exploded for 29points, including burying six threepoint­ers Wednesday night for Hoosick Valley against Galway. Tanner Williams added 11points, including three treys of his own. John Acker led Galway with eight points. SARATOGA 49, COLONIE 43>> Saratoga knocked off previously undefeated in league play Colonie, 49-43 Wednesday night in Suburban Council play. The Garnet Raiders were led by Erin Fouracre’s 17points followed by Aliyah Wright’s 11. The Blue Streaks were once again paced by Kerry Flaherty’s team-high 17points, including three three-point goals and Catherine Cairns 11 point night. ALBANY 65, TROY HIGH 55>> Hasijna Gaddy scored a game-high 25points as Albany High dropped Troy High, 65-55, in Suburban Council action Wednesday night. Aubrey Halloran added 15points on the night for the Falcons.

The Flying Horses (2-3Suburban Council, 2-6overall) were paced by Jenalyse Alarcon’s 18points and Juliana Valenti’s 14Wednesda­y night, including four threepoint­ers. CATHOLIC CENTRAL 59, SCHALMONT 42>> Kay Valley scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Crusaders past Schalmont Wednesday night in Colonial Council action. Emily Frodyma followed with 15points. Madison Graber and Payton Graber each scored 17points in the loss. WATERFORD-HALFMOON 55, BISHOP MAGINN 23 >> Breanna DeFruscio scored a game-high 14points for the Fordians as they almost doubled up Bishop Maginn Wednesday night. Emily Kelley followed wit 12points for Waterford-Halfmoon. Bishop Maginn was led by Christine Catalan with 11points. SARATOGA 3,730, BURNT HILLS 3,196>> Ethan Bowers just missed out on a perfect game, firing a 299on his way to a 651. Jake Muller led Saratoga with a 235-234222691s­eries with Hunter Chandler added a 240-652 series. Burnt Hills was led by Aleks Lorenc’s 237-210652 series Wednesday afternoon.

AVERILL PARK 2,501, BALLSTON SPA 2,423>> Averill Park claimed the Suburban Council girls contest, 20-12. Erin Ranken led Averill Park with a 179-498series followed by Tori Radley’s 174-495set and Stephanie Mangene’s 166-455series. Ballston Spa was led by Kara ataldo’s 181-487series followed by Sam Miller’s 174-477along with Taylor Russell’s 140-367. Sarah Pritchard also rolled a 367 series for the Scotties.

HOOSICK FALLS 3,414, HADLEY-LUZERNE 2,364 >> The Hoosick Falls won all 4points in their away match Tuesday.

Hoosick Fall’s senior Captain A.J. Hurlburt 236-695was the top bowler in the match, while Triston Hughes 208 and Lucas Lauback 200 led Hadley-Luzerne. Other top scores for Hoosick Falls included: Evan Webster 213617, Owynn Arnold 206-541, Meg Backes 189-537, Colin King 189-535, Erin McCart 188-529, James Hynd 184515, Brody Mullen 186and Ryan Maxon 150. The win improves Hoosick Falls’ point record to 31-5.

BETHLEHEM 3,097, CBA 3,092>> Bethlehem edged CBA by just seven pins in Suburban Council action Wednesday afternoon, 1814. Bethlehem was led by Jeremy Martelle’s 175-179226580s­eries with Zacch Hansen adding a 231high game. The Brothers were led by Brandon Jones’ 221-193201615s­eries. SARATOGA 166.510, BETHLEHEM 148.10>> Saratoga swept the top three spots in the all-around competitio­n at Wednesday’s Suburban Council meet at Bethlehem. Ava Dallas earned 36points overall after her 9.0on vault, 8.80on the uneven bars, 9.10on balance beam and 9.0in floor exercise, winning three out of four events. Sophia Damiano was second in the all-around with her 35.30with an 8.50 on the vault, 8.70on the uneven bards, 8.90on the balane beam and her winning 9.20in floor exercise. Kate Delta Ratta finished third in the all-around with a 35.30. She was third on the floor exercise with an 8.40. Blue Streak Laura Eberlein was third on the bars with an 8.00and Kerri Jankowitz was third on the beam with an 8.50.

CBA 1, BETHLEHEM 1>> Christian Brothers Academy goalie Brandon Mohrhoff turned back 28out of 29 shots Wednesday against Bethlehem. Ryan Dollar scored the lone Brothers goal in the second from an assist from Hunter Pemrick and Dylan Van Epps to knot the score at one goal apiece. Ben LaVigne scored the lone Eagles goal from an assist from Thomas Liebold. In goal for Bethlehem, Alex Breiner had 25saves on the night. ALBANY 96, BALLSTON SPA 49>> Ballston Spa’s Robert Bodien won the 200yard freestyle in two minutes, 3.46seconds. He also went on twin the 100-freestyle in 56.63. Karl Burkert captured the 200-individual medley in 2:22.39along with the 100-butterfly in 1:01.73. Justin Layer captured the 500-freestyle in 5:45.20. SARATOGA 55, SHAKER 24>> Saratoga Springs wrestlers Doug Cooper (285), Jordan Sartin (113), Maxim Chuckrow (132) and Frank Spatafora (152) all earned pins Wednesday night in Suburban Council action. Ryan DiGuiseppe (160) and Eric Griskowitz (126) earned technical pinfalls for the Blue Streaks.

SHENENDEHO­WA 58, BURNT HILLS 15>> Shenendeho­wa’s Steve Poulin (99), Cody Deuel (132), Kiernan Shanahan (145) and Sebastian Underwood (285) all won by fall Wednesday night at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School. Spartan’s John DeConno (113) and Danny Jada (138) each won by pinfall.

COLUMBIA 66, MOHONASEN 12>> Columbia (5-0 Suburban Council, 19-0overall) remained undefeated on the season with a 66-12win over Mohonasen Wednesday night. Blue Devils Jake Edwards knocked off previously undefeated Jim Marx with a pin at 42seconds. Michael Gonyea pinned Jake Dequire by technical pinfall to extend his season record to 18-0.
