LATHAM, N.Y. » The veteran New York state trooper who died this week after battling an illness related to his service after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center will be laid to rest early next week.

State police announced Friday that calling hours for Trooper Michael J. Anson will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Alumni Recreation Center on the Siena College campus. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Alumni Recreation Center.

Anson, a 31-year-veteran of the state police, died Tuesday of an undisclosed illness. He spent his entire career in Troop G, most recently stationed at the New Scotland barracks, and was previously assigned to the East Greenbush, Brunswick and Schodack stations. He was assigned as a school resource officer from 2003-10 in the Averill Park and Brunswick central school districts and also was a training officer at the New York State Police Academy, leading several classes from 2012-17.

Following the events of 9/11, Anson was assigned to New York City to aid in search and recovery efforts in and around the World Trade Center. The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials recognizes a long list of 9/11-related injuries and illnesses through its World Trade Center Health Program, including a variety of cancers, respiratory, digestive and musculoskeletal disorders and mental health issues.

Anson is from Albany County and is survived by his wife, their three children, and his brothers.
