ALL YOU CAN EAT BREAKFAST: The Poestenkil­l Christian Church, 721 Snyder’s Corners Rd., Poestenkil­l, will have its monthly All You Can Eat Breakfast on Saturday, January 6, from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. The cost is $8 for adults and $3.50 for children under 10. BIRD DAY: In appreciati­on of local birds the Children’s Museum of Science + Technology (CMOST) will look at migration patterns, learn about citizen science and study the structure of a bird nest. CHRIS GIBSON: Former Congressma­n Chris Gibson will be at the Kinderhook Memorial Library for a reading from his new book “Rally Point.” Mr. Gibson has over 35 years of distinguis­hed public service. He also spent twenty-nine years in the U.S. Army, where he rose to the rank of colonel and commanded the 82nd Airborne Division’s 2nd Brigade. A discussion and Q&A session will follow the reading. PEEBLES ISLAND STATE PARK: The Friends of Peebles Island State Park will host “Picture My Park Day” on January 6 at 1 p.m. at the Visitor Center. HONOR A DECEASED VETERAN: The Rensselaer County Honor a Deceased Veteran Program will honor Stanley and David Opitz, a father and son from Troy, at this month’s ceremony on January 8 at 8:30 a.m. in the Legislativ­e Chambers, Third Floor of the County Office Bldg. located at 1600 Seventh Avenue, Troy. Stanley J. Opitz served in the United States Marine Corps as an Aviation Specialist during World War II earning awards that included the WWII Victory Medal. His son, David B. BRAIN FOOD FOR THE CURIOUS: New York State Museum historians and scientists share their knowledge and research in a series of lunchtime talks this winter. “Brain Food for the Curious” will be held select on Tuesdays in October through March, from 12:10 p.m. – 12:40 p.m., in the Huxley Theater. January 9, “Archaeolog­ical Evidence for Pre-Clovis Occupation of Northeaste­rn North America.” When and how did humans first colonize the Americas? Learn about current theories for the Ice Age peopling of the Americas and archaeolog­ical evidence for earliest human occupation­s of northeaste­rn North America. The 20-minute talk is followed by a question-and-answer period. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch.

EAST SIDE SENIORS: The East Side Seniors’ next business meeting will be held on January 9 at the American Legion Post on Main Street in Wynantskil­l, starting at 1 p.m. All meetings are preceded with the pledge to the Flag, and a moment of silence.
