SKIDMORE WOMEN STAY UNDEFEATED

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> The Skidmore College women’s basketball team remained unbeaten in Liberty League play with a 64-48win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Friday night.

The Thoroughbreds (5-5, 3-0Liberty League) are in a three-way tie for first place with Ithaca and RIT. The Engineers (6-4, 2-1) lose for the first time in conference play.

Skidmore’s Kelly Donnelly recorded her 35th career double/double with 20 points and 11rebounds. The two-time All-American added four assists and three steals. It was Donnelly’s 49th straight game in double figures. Taylor Ong scored 11points off the bench, going 5-8 (62.5%) from the floor. Veronica Moceri contributed a career-high six assists to go along with eight points. LaKissa Martin was the lone RPI player in double figures with 14points. Elizabeth Eckhardt and Sam Krumbhaer scored nine each. Both teams struggled at the start, with RPI taking full advantage of the shot clock in an attempt to slow the Thoroughbreds down. Skidmore settled in late in the first quarter when Donnelly took over, scoring six straight points over the final 50seconds to put the Thoroughbreds in front 16-12at the first break. Skidmore extended the lead to 31-21 at the end of the half. RPI scored the first points of the third quarter on an Eckhardt fastbreak to cut it to 31-23. Skidmore responded with a 9-0run to break it open 40-23. Ari Fustini had two threepointers to key the offensive spurt.. The Engineers were unable to get any closer than 13the rest of the way.
