Water main break leads Troy officials to issue boil water order

-

TROY, N.Y. » A water main break led to the issuance by city officials of a boil water order for portions of the city and surrounding area.

The order is for city customers who were hit by reduced water pressure or no water service south of Congress Street and Pawling Avenue, along with all users of the town of North Greenbush public water supply and those affected on Oxford Circle in the town of Brunswick, officials said.

Until the boil water order is lifted, affected residents are required to boil water before use for drinking or culinary purposes, officials said. Bring the water to a boil, let it boil for one minute and let it cool before using, or use bottled water certified for sale by the state Department of Health.

The city Department of Public Utilities received reports Saturday morning of reduced water pressure or loss of service. Crews isolated the impacted main and service was restored to affected residents. Water pressure was expected to return over the next several hours, but residents were warned they may experience discolored water and pressure fluctuations while the system pressurizes, officials said.
