Cohoes man sentenced to 20 to life
Duckett admitted gunning down man during Albany party
ALBANY, N.Y. » A Cohoes man could spend the rest of his life behind bars for gunning down another man during a Father’s Day party last year.
The Albany County District Attorney’s Office said Richard Duck- ett, 20, was sentenced Thursday morning in Albany County Court to
20 years to life in prison, six weeks after he admitted to killing Terrance Roberts, 46, during a family gathering June 18, 2017, on Delaware Avenue in Albany.
Duckett shot Roberts once in the side and once in the head after an argument involving Roberts, Duckett and a pair of co-defendants, Duckett’s mother, Jas- mine Mingo, and aunt, Brittany Mingo. Police said the unlicensed gun used in the shooting was recovered a short distance from the scene.
Jasmine and Brittany Mingo each subsequently pleaded guilty to a felony count of first- degree hindering prosecution, admitting they drove Duckett from the scene of the shooting and hid him from police. Duckett was captured Sept. 21 at a home in Brockport after federal marshals received a tip he may have been staying in the Rochester area.
Duckett was initially charged with second-degree murder and second- degree criminal possession of a weapon, but pleaded guilty Dec. 21 to the second- degree murder charge under a plea deal.
Jasmine and Brittany Mingo are scheduled to be sentenced March 23 and could face as much as seven years in prison under state sentencing guidelines.
