Cooperation will help keep river clean

-

The challenge of our communities to restore and sustain our natural resources within the Hudson River watershed needs to be addressed by us in a cooperative process to ensure pollution prevention strategies are increased by municipalities and businesses that discharge polluted wastewater into our environment.

RPI is a member of the NYS Pollution Prevention Institute with three other universities and ten research and development centers throughout New York state. The mission of the organization is to improve environmental sustainability by cooperating with various groups to identify and develop pollution prevention opportunities.

Since businesses and municipalities are continuing to discharge polluted wastewater into the Hudson River watershed, then cooperative projects using the Capital Region Economic Development Council’s funding process to secure a workforce to implement researched pollution prevention strategies is practical. In addition, the RPI faculty and students may apply to the National Science Foundation’s programs for advanced technological education and the advancement of women in science to obtain more funding.

The New York State attorney general and governor think the Hudson River Region is vital to our environment, economy, and communities. RPI faculty and students, in coordination with the NYS Pollution Prevention Institute, may assist development of human-friendly technology and cooperate with municipalities and businesses to develop an educated and trained work force to attain our liberty from polluted land and water.
