UALBANY FALLS AT NEW HAMPSHIRE, 74-68

NEW HAMPSHIRE >> The University at Albany women’s basketball team saw their eight-game winning streak come to an end Saturday, falling on the road at New Hampshire 7468. The result also snaps the Wildcats’ three- game losing streak.

After a scoreless first two minutes, Jessica Féquière hit a three to put the first points on the board. A layup from CeCe Mayo with 4:01 left in the first would put UAlbany up by four, and prove to be the Danes’ largest lead of the afternoon.

Trailing by two after one, New Hampshire earned back- to- back and- ones early in the second quarter and took a three point lead. UAlbany took back the lead with 7:09 remaining in the half, one possession after tying the game for the seventh time in the half. New Hampshire retook the lead 80 seconds of game time later, stretching the advantage to as many as nine before heading into halftime up seven. The Wildcats shot 9-11 from the floor in the second quarter, outscoring UAlbany by nine.

Midway through the third quarter, UAlbany had cut the lead to one and trailed 48- 47. The Great Danes took the lead with 2:24 left in the quarter after Mayo drew a foul on a layup to put UAlbany up 51-50. It would be the final time the Great Danes led during the game. The Wildcats hit a pair of free throws to take a 52-50 lead, and began the fourth quarter leading by three.

New Hampshire suffered an extended scoring drought lasting the final 5:53 of the third quarter and the first 6:12 of the fourth. Chyanna Canada cut the lead to one with 6:01 left in the game with a pair of free throws, tying her career-high 12 points. Canada capped off a 6- 0 UAlbany run during which time the Great Danes did not hit a shot.

Aquick 6-0 run out of the fourth-quarter media timeout saw the Wildcats take a seven-point, 66- 59 lead with 2:18 left in the game. UAlbany would cut the lead as close as five, but fell behind once more by as many as nine before ultimately losing by six, 74- 68.
