TROY, N.Y. » Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin is working to check off another item from his campaign promise list.

McLaughlin recently announced the start of his RensCo on the Road initiative, which will bring county government into communities during 2018.

County officials said the new program will serve as a resource fair that provides residents access and a greater understand- ing about the operation and function of county government. The events will also highlight services and programs provided by county government.

McLaughl i n had promised to establish the RensCo on the Road resource fairs when seeking the office of County Executive last year.

“The RensCo on the Road Resource Fair will showcase county government and show the services, programs and functions provided on behalf of our residents. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about county government in a convenient and relaxed setting,” said McLaughlin in a recent news re- lease.

McLaughlin already scheduled his first stop as part of the initiative, which will take place on Tuesday, March 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Brunswick Community Center, located on Keyes Lane, just off Route 7, in Brunswick. The event is open to the public and free of charge.

Several county service departments and providers will be a part of the initiative including Department of Aging, Department of Social Services, Employment and Training, Health Department, Probation Department, Veterans Service Agency, Youth Department and other services and departments.

The RensCo on the Road program is part of an initiative by McLaughlin to bring county government closer to the people, a news release said. Since taking office in January, McLaughlin has also launched new social media sites to provide information and updates on county government.

“Residents are busy and have demanding schedules. We want to do everything we can to make county government more accessible, open and responsive to the people we serve. The RensCo on the Road Resource Fair is one way to accomplish that goal,” said McLaughlin.

Officials said that other RensCo on the Road Resource Fairs will be scheduled and announced for later this year.
