BETTY JOYCE ROY TURNER

NORTH GREENBUSH - Betty Joyce Roy Turner, 74, of Hampton Place Blvd died Monday, February 12, 2018, at her residence after a long illness, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late Roland Charles Roy, Sr. and Julia Robinson Roy and former wife of William H. Haupt, Sr. She had resided in the Troy area all her life and was a 1961 graduate of Averill Park High School. Betty was a Driver Improvemen­t Examiner for the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles in Albany for 30 years retiring 15 years ago. She was a proud member of the breakfast club at Carol’s Place on Pawling Avenue in Troy. Survivors in addition to her former husband include her children,,Joann (Michael) Scott, Ellington, CT, Tracey Heacox, Watervliet, William H. (Kelly) Haupt, Jr., Wynantskil­l and Wayne H. Haupt, Sr., Averill Park; a sister, Ruth (Ronald) Schrom, Liverpool, NY; a sister-in-law, Alice Roy, Wynantskil­l; a brother-in-law, Richard Miller, Troy; 8 grandchild­ren; 3 great grandchild­ren and many nieces and nephews. She was predecease­d by her siblings, Alfred Babcock, Richard J. Babcock, Roland Roy Jr., Barbara Miller and Carole Coffey. ROBERT H. POOLE, SR.

LOUDONVILL­E - Robert Henry Poole, Sr., 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at St. Peters Hospital, with his loving family by his side. Robert was the son of the late Henry and Rose Mary (Zelka) Poole. He was the devoted husband of over 37 years, to the late Barbara B. (Guiry) Poole. Robert proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1961, retiring as Airman First Class. Robert was a life member of the VFW Post 1019 and a longtime communican­t of Our Lady of Angels Church. He was a devoted father and grandfathe­r who enjoyed hosting and cooking at family gatherings. He derived great joy in spending time with his 12 grandchild­ren. He was an avid Jets and Mets fan and loved spending summers at Saratoga Lake. Robert is survived by his five sons, Robert H. (Susan) Poole Jr. of Loudonvill­e, James M. Poole of Altamonte Springs, FL., Joseph M. (Maria) Poole of Niskayuna, Michael P. (Meredith) Poole and Daniel S. (Tracy) Poole, both of Colonie. He was the adored grandfathe­r of, Liz, AJ, Brendan, Nick, Caitlyn, Lauren, Ryan, Shane, Michael, Robbie, Kylie and Emma. He is the brother of Richard (William) Poole of Silver Spring, MD. He is also survived by his companion Dora Skelley. DAVID H. WATERS

JOHNSONVIL­LE - David H. Waters, 64, passed away on Sunday February 11th at St Peter’s Hospital in Albany, New York. He was the husband of Sharron (Moulton) Waters who resides on Tamarac Road. David was born on August 8th , 1953 in Troy, New York, son of the late Harry and Doris (Shellard) Waters. David worked for the N.Y.S. Transporta­tion Department for thirty-five years. He was a member of the Vietnam Vets/ Legacy Vets Motorcycle Club and the Powamppoko­nk Gun Club. David enjoyed riding his motorcycle, going to flea markets, weekly auctions, spelunking, canoeing, hiking all with family and spending time with his dog “Benny”. Survivors other than his wife Sharron include their daughter Heather (Mike) Daigneault of Buskirk, NY, son Dameon (Karen) Church on Elkton, FL, sister Marilyn (Warren) Fane of Troy, NY, brothers Kenneth (Carole) Waters of Ash Flat, AK, Randy (Lynn) Waters of Poestenkil­l, NY, and brother-inlaw Robert Young. He is also survived by 9 grandchild­ren, several nieces and nephews and special friends Bob and Nancy Hardesty and John and Lori Burt. David is predecease­d by a son Jason E. Waters, sister Linda Young and brother Donald Waters. Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, New York on Saturday February 17th from 1:00-3:00 pm. WALTER F. TANSKI

TROY - Walter F. Tanski, age 91, passed away peacefully with his daughters by his side on January 26, 2018 at Eddy Memorial, Troy. Born in Albany to Louis and Anna Tanski, he lived most of his life in Troy. He graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Albany, and later in life from Russell Sage College in Troy. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during World War II, spending time on the submarine, the “USS Quillback.” Walt was an employee of Niagara Mohawk Power Corporatio­n, and retired from there after 40 years of service. In addition to his parents Louis and Anna, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years Catherine (Kay), and his daughter, Barbara Tanski. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Louis (Delores) Tanski, Elizabeth (Samuel) Mills, and Thomas (Marilyn) Tanski. Walt is survived by his sister, Florence (Edward) Spurgas of Charlton. He is also survived by his three daughters, Susan (John) Roberts of Akron, Ohio, Lois (Paul) Bachman of Latham, and Karen (Joseph) Crudo of Watervliet. Walt was a loving father and very proud grandfathe­r. He leaves behind his grandchild­ren, Allison (Brendan) Grealis, Julie Roberts, Jonathan (Julieta) Roberts, Elizabeth ( Matthew) Bogdanowic­z, Paul Bachman, Holly (Zachary) Gleason, and Ellie Crudo (Lauren Monteith). He also leaves behind seven great-grandchild­ren, Noah, Amelia, John, Jacob, Raphael, Everett and Bennett. Walt is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. Walt was an amazing man and those who knew him will always remember him with a sparkle in his eyes and a joke on his lips. He so enjoyed humor, music, garage sales, carving his “nut baskets,” which he gave out to many, and his puzzles. He will be missed by all. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Eddy Memorial in Troy for the loving care they always provided to Walt. A special thank you also to Gloria Kieber for her love and support. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 N. Lake Avenue, Troy by Rev. Randall Patterson. ODELIA ANNE BURKE

Odelia Anne Burke (nee Grogan) passed away after a long illness on Feb. 9, 2018 at the age of 72. Odelia was a graduate of Troy High School and married John F. Burke of Troy, NY. She was a long time employee of AT&T, Menands before she and her husband moved to Michigan for his career. Odelia was a loving mother of her two sons John J. and Michael S. Burke and cared for her own mother until her death. Odelia was deeply faithful and enjoyed watching religious television. She was the youngest of five children and is survived by her beloved sons and her sister Maureen Brown. A wake will be held at the Schraeder-Howell Funeral Home (www.schraeder-howell.com), Plymouth, Michigan. The wake will commence at 5 PM with a Religious Service at 7 PM on Saturday Feb. 17. Odelia will be interred with her husband John Burke in a military funeral on Tuesday Feb. 20 at 12:30 PM at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly Michigan.
