MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
Hoosick Falls woman happy with ‘Jeopardy’ experience
HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. » “If you have a dream go for it, it can happen to you, it can happen to anyone if you just keep on persevering.”
On Monday night, Hoosick Falls resident Kate Logan did just that and fulfilled one of her lifelong dreams – to be a contestant on Jeopardy.
For the past several years Logan had a dream to be a contestant on Jeopardy and on Monday night she was able to watch herself compete on the show and finish in second-place as a recent contestant.
“I watched it [Monday night] with my grandson and my son,” said Logan. “It was a little surreal and they thought it was hysterical. It was just terrific.”
Logan, 61, a work-from-home medical transcriptionist, who also currently raises her grandson, has always been a fan of quiz television shows and games.
Logan went through the application process to try to be a contestant on the show for a total of three times, before finally being selected in 2017 to come to the studio in California to be a contestant on the 34th season of Jeopardy in California.
“You always want to make excuses, I’m not going to make any excuses, I think that obviously since I didn’t win, I think that I could have played better, but what it comes down to, it’s what Maggie [one of the Jeopardy employees] says, she says, ‘ you get what you get and it is what it is’,” said Logan, who won $2,000.
Logan said she enjoyed being able to have a face-to-face conversation with long-time Jeopardy host, Alex Trebek on television.
“Well you know, he’s Alex Trebek, who’s actually talking to you, it’s just amazing, amazing,” said Logan. “He really does make an effort [to talk with each contestant on air].”
Logan said that Trebek could have had a conversation with her about five different topics that she provided to the show about herself.
“It’s really interesting, you never know what he’s going to actually ask,” said Logan, who had a conversation with Trebek about her being a piano player since age 5 and still does play.
Logan said that she intends to use some of the money that she won for toys for her grandson and stuff for her son along with some possible music related stuff for herself.
“All my life I wanted to do this and I never thought that I would,” said Logan. “The only thing is that I wish that I had been able to do it 20 years ago back when my hair was thick and my waist was thin instead of vice versa.”
